I have looked into it i know all about it I was just wondering what all your ideas on it are.

Kithop

It's completely your choice.  While I respect those who want to serve, I disagree with the policymakers that continually put them in harm's way.

A friend of mine's essentially career military - he's in for a full term, and has never had an issue with it. He's in the office, though, and often that's where you wind up - doing the support work, not going overseas.

It's a reasonable gig - doesn't pay a huge amount to start with, but it's got benefits in terms of living arrangements, etc. and the pay isn't bad going forward (at least my friend can buy pretty much every new video game on the planet). And going overseas is going to be less likely in the next few years as Canada draws down on its deployments.

Joining the military will change you, there are no two ways on this subject.

If you are happy with who you are now, don't join.
If you are not, maybe join.

Think deep on the toll not only the training will take, but knowing you have the ability to reach such a dark place that you're willing to snuff out a fellow candle's flame. And that soot the wick leaves on your fingers? Consider if it'll ever wash out.

If you do sign on, you may be stuck sitting in Quebec for a good half year while they sort out placements for the new recruits.   And Quebec's winters are mean.  You will be forced to work in it even while you are waiting to be placed in what ever given regiment.

On the up side, you get to bypass airport security, so long as you have a national defense card.  Medical coverage is amazing.   And forget about paying for Medications, the military supplies what you need.

And Ember is right in the long run.   Killing is a unfortunate matter of affairs,  and is the basis of what you are going to be trained for in your BMQ.

Hard to say on this one. I've worked with two guys who made a career out of being in the military and a third who was in the military, but won't say more than that. I also have an uncle who was also in the military, though I haven't spoken with him in years.

The first two have said nothing but good things. Steady work, loads of opportunities in other areas, awesome benefits and loads of new skills. You also have the opportunity to travel all over the world as well.

The downside to all this is that you will inevitably spend long periods away from your friends and family, the usual risks when you are deployed into a combat, or potential combat area.

In the end, it's up to you whether or not you decide to join. Yes, the benefits are awesome, but there are also some pretty big risks as well.

Don't do it simply because you have nothing else to do.
If you go over there, you're going to see and do things that you won't like or agree with.
Your choices will be to let yourself be brainwashed so you can handle it, in which case the person you are now likely will not exist any more.
Or you're going to be overcome by grief and end up worse than things might be for you now.

I know people who have gone over thinking we're over there to do some good, then find themselves stuck there for their term, hating every minute of it, when they realise we're not.
The one that comes to mind was a medic.

I would join the military and fight, if there was a fight I believed in. But like Kithop says, there are going to be people with their own interests who decide who and what you're fighting for.
Usually fatcats in suits who's interests are closely tied to the US's interests.

Now if you're just looking for a job that involves traveling, guns and some action, maybe join the military for an easy term behind a desk, get your training, then join something like Aegis Defence or.... *shudder* Blackwater. Xe as they like to be called now... Sounds like a bunch of suits to me.
But they work for very private interests and are usually just acting as security.
They pay well and you're probably trained better than most soldiers.

I've heard tell that the hard-core mercenary units that get hired by small foreign regimes do actually exist, but I imagine you'd have to really enjoy killing for that.

I have to disagree with that, living in my mother's basement gives me a unique, rich perspective on life that hyoomans don't have.
Now if you'll excuse me I have a fine dinner of cheetos and mountain dew waiting for me, and a hot date with some printed-out furry porn.

Judging by your age, collect as much information about what path you want to take, your school should have pamphlets and stuff for just about everything, including the military.  Ask to talk to a counsellor at school - even if they're just doing their job and don't give a shit, they will provide you with a wide range of options, military included.

Thywolf

*is basicly a military fur not in the military* D: been in cadets, to all the military career information things through out high school.

as for other options...
I talked to the job counselor and when he asked me what i wanted to be, I said a high school job counselor cause I'd be good at letting people down. He said forget that I haven't got the math.

;p lol

The military isn't the worst option you could take, but it's a commitment...so be sure!

If it is what you want to do, then pursue it with all your heart.

Be prepared for basic, though. Both my brother and one of my good friends went in for the navy, and both got injured and sent home within the first month.

I'm also debating on joining the armed forces, but as a reservist.  I'm looking at several choices though: Signals, Medic, Artillery, or Armor.  Just not sure which one to go for.  and that's basically in order too..  It doesn't help that I also have a strong affiliation with the millitary, though have never been a part of a millitary organization before.
