Goodbye, everyone.

This is a goodbye post. Recently I figured out I likely won't be staying in Vancouver come April.

I was relying on a job (and very confident) in order to stay in Van. Today I received a phone call that I have been rejected.

I sent an email asking for reconsideration and I've looked into other jobs, particularly hotel work, but so far I've found nothing. If anyone has any ideas, you are free to post them here or message me with them, but so far it looks like my only option is moving back in with my family in Alberta.

If this is truly goodbye, remember that to all the people I've met at sushi, or at VancouFur 2016, or talked to otherwise, I'll miss you all. BC furries has been wonderful to me. I really, truly hope to be back as soon as possible.

Unfortunately you might find more work in Alberta, the city is becoming more and more expensive to live in.

I don't envy your position. It's one I was in a while back and was really scared to be in. I hope you find a job regardless.

If I end up leaving the plan is to come back here as a permanent resident as soon as I can. But even if that doesn't happen I still plan on doing everything in my power to attend Vancoufur 2017

BOOO I only got to know you for so long my heart... she breaks... some other waxing poetic bs about how my soul is being crushed and how deep my sadness is... like a potatoe... thrown into the mariana trench in the pacific ocean.

I'm sure you'll get it bud you are a go getter! what ever that means!
Mother Midnight, pray for those children who dream and worship in thy ethereal embrace, keep our minds clean and our wits sharp for the harsh embrace of your sister. May the dreams you grant us not sear our minds and drive us into the deepest pits of madness but be as illuminating as the dawn and shine a beacon's torch to the future!

It was a pleasure to meet you for the brief time that I did at VancouFur this year. I am sorry to hear about the misfortune, but don't take it too personally! It's not the end for you, sure, you may have to move back just to find more work but that's not so bad, right? Like Owl said, it isn't cheap to live here, think of all the other possibilities for you! Maybe something will take you out here again, but if you still got the drive to keep searching for something here then keep at it! Don't feel bad if things aren't going your way CURRENTLY, because eventually they'll have to, just don't give up but try not to stress too much either, alright?
I am but a blade in the crowd.

I have seen what comes of those who raise themselves above others.

Thanks Kai. I just spent the day polishing my resumes, handing them out to places at metrotown mall, and responding to possible housing locations. I haven't given up just yet but if I do find a job and a place to live it will be tiiight.

That being said, you don't happen to know of any teenager / young adult clothing stores, electronics stores, or decent fast food places hiring in the burnaby / vancouver area do you? Would appreciate any tips or leads.

What I'd suggest doing is not doing the majority of your job search online

When I took an employment course at my college, something they pointed out was the "hidden job market". Something like 70% of jobs aren't advertised.

You have to look at it this way. When a place is hiring, it is flooded with applicants. You now have something like 500 other people you have to compete with for 1-2 jobs. There's even resume software that bigger companies and online applications use that filter out things like keywords and place them accordingly in the "read" and "delete" folders. It's why a lot of bigger companies always push for you to do online applications because it's much less of a hassle.

However if you try to apply to a bunch of places that aren't directly hiring, they might hire you or keep your resume on hand just in-case. Likewise a lot of places are just understaffed but don't think it's necessary to post an advertisement.

There's loads of little factors that you can take advantage of when applying for a job. That reduce your competition from 500 to just 5. The biggest piece of advice I can give is to be persistent. Companies like it when you're persistent. It subconsciously makes you sound like you care more for the job. And it comes off to them as enthusiasm or confidence, which they like. The more persistent you are, I guarantee the less resumes you'll have to fill out.

Yup. The only place I applied to that actually had a sign up was A&W. The rest, I gave them my resume because I liked (or could at least tolerate) the store.

spuug

I've seen lots of places with "Help Wanted" signs in their windows around town.

london drugs hires a lot randomly, especially for night crew. its a decent wage, just check on line which stores, make a profile, then bring in a resume after. granville and georgia is a very busy store, and very tolerant of everyone.

Hey guys I appreciate it I really do.

But at this point, tomorrow being the 19th, it's too late to go out to apply. Chipotle wanted an interview as well but on the 21st and I would have to tell my mom not to come pick me up to drive back to Drayton. Basically I would be taking a huge risk at this point and relying purely on Trapa to provide me with housing until I actually found a real home (and hes somewhat deep in Surrey so that is not ideal at all).

I love you guys so so much for wanting to help and giving me so much advice, it means the world to me, but unfortunately at this point in time, this sergal cannot take the risk. He needs something concrete and it's very unlikely an employer is gonna come ask him outright to work for them starting immediately.

I promise, to all of you, I will be back as soon as possible. I have not forgotten all the wonderful furs of Vancouver, and I won't forget anytime soon. I'm just taking a break, that's all.

I will say, for anyone going to Fur'eh, you will see me. That is a place I will be and I would love for people to come say hi. I will be in Van until the morning of the 25th. That's when I go home. If you wanna say your goodbyes I got a lot of time on my hands for the next few days so I have no problem seeing some of you. Until then however, this is goodbye~
