I'm not 100% sure if I can go or not. Right now I'm debating on doing so because I don't really know what this convention offers. I've looked at some of the panels and still don't quite understand many of them even with the description. Are there any panels or things to do that you would recommend? I don't want to spend the money on hotels and such if it's a mostly sit and listen to people talk panels, they just aren't my thing (some I don't mind). I prefer more interactive things. Also is it a convention you can easily go and do things by yourself or is it more group oriented?

Temrin

Conventions are what you make of it. There is usually content for just about everyone.

What are you hobbies and interests? I could possibly try to point you in the direction of something you may like.

There are lots of cool panels, including more interactive ones. Game panels, charity/hilarious for fun panels, tournaments, meetups, a gaming room, an art room, dances, some fun main events, artists/vendors in the dealers den/art show/artist alley, etc. ('panel' is just another term for events/fan run content. They arent always "sit and listen" things.)

Lots of people do things on their own or in groups. Its really what you make of it. Theres pretty good food on location, a pub even and a rooftop garden and a pool.

What kind of interactive things are you thinking?

Hmmm that makes it a little tough because some of my hobbies aren't things I would want to be doing at cons. For example I love sewing and drawing but I don't want to go to a sewing or art panel unless it's something I still haven't learned yet. I do like to make jewelry and would like to learn more on that, I like gaming as wells but I wouldn't want to spend too long doing that as it's something I can do at home. I would like to go to some funny panels and some game show ones for sure. Charity/hilarious for fun panels sound up my alley. :) The meet ups too are something I'm interested in as I'm trying to make furry friends.

Do you think I can still get into the convention if I get the tickets the day of? Have they ever had to turn people away?

Temrin

Well, you never know what you might learn at those hobby panels but that is totally your call! :)

I am not sure if there is a jewelry panel off the top of my head buuuut who knows!

You can filter different kinds of panels on the schedule too which is helpful! http://vancoufur2016.sched.org
On the right side, where the coloured dots are, click one of the names to find something you might want to look at.

For example, if you want to check out social meetups for different groups/species/hobbies/etc, you can look at http://vancoufur2016.sched.org/overview/type/Social%2FMeetup ! Lots if different meetups happening. You might just find something that interests you! :D

There is also one for different types of games/gaming. http://vancoufur2016.sched.org/overview/type/Gaming

etc. :D

Also yes! Tickets are certainly available each day. Many people show up for the weekend and buy a weekend pass at the door. Day passes are also available if you just want to spend a day. (Just be sure to pick the day with the most panels/activities you are interested in!

Day registration prices and the AUP/Code of conduct are available at http://vancoufur.org/reg.php (if you are spending more then one day though, the weekend pass is cheapest to get!) They never turn away people unless they do not bring their Photo ID (backup ID with a name on it is always good to bring to any function as well!)

The only thing that might be difficult to find is a hotel space if you want to share a hotel space to cut costs. There are rooms still available at the overflow hotel (http://vancoufur.org/hotel.php ) and you can find the links at the bottom of the page for ride and roomshare places as well on that page :D

I hope this helps!

Omg this is extremely helpful! O__O thanks a ton!

Hey! If you see me let me know! XD
For sure, if you're up for hanging out other times too let me know. I've been having a hard time trying to make events because I find out too late and also because I don't drive. Vancoufur depends on if my mom can take me or not. I can't afford the events on the mainland so sometimes she'll take me but I've tried to go to things in Victoria. :)

I come from Maple Ridge so I know what you mean. This will be my third time going. The first time I had to explain to my mother (because at the time I didn't know how to get there on my own) where I wanted to go and what it was about. I told her what a furry was a little while before going so she didn't seem to mind, she is a pretty awesome mom, thinks it's cute, even made a joke about how I should go wearing a dog collar. Gotta love open minded parents XD Where abouts do you live? Maybe we can take you, or we can take the skytrain or whatever is easier!

EDIT: Also, I'm not staying in any rooms myself, I'll just be going back and forth from ridge from bus and skytrain most likely...

I'm in Duncan, on the island, otherwise I'd take either of you up on the offer. I was debating a room share. I'm super suspicious on things like that now though as I've had bad experiences with room shares. It's not so much the people themselves, it's the people they bring back. I've had to kick out people from the room because an ex-friend had just met these people and brought them back. One girl was drunk and started throwing up so I told her friend politely that she needs to go back to her room and rest, i was actually concerned, then she was throwing up more and I kept hinting to her to leave and it got to the point I just had to kick them out...they thought I was a bitch for the rest of the con.

The thing is more that if people damaged the hotel room, it gets taken out of my parents credit card.(I don't have one.)  I've had people say they can't afford one of the nights then go spend 150 dollars in the vendors...this person had a job...I'm on assistance, so my mom has to pay for most "fun" things or I save up for a whole year. Lots of people try to pull the, my friend needs a place to crash too but won't pay too. -_-;

Sorry I went in a rant there...just such jack asses. XD

I was really hoping to talk to more people or meet more people before the con but it's been pretty hard since there isn't much on the island.

BellafluffyButt

well if you come I am sure kai would say hi ! she is the best at that :D
Ah... i come..... i go
