Now if you're like me, you like stats. Especially stats on the furry fandom!

Here's a list of the studies that have been done so far, https://sites.google.com/site/anthropomorphicresearch/past-results

What results have surprised you guys the most? :3

Clicked the Fursona survey of 2013.... didn't realize "greymuzzle" was an identity type. I am only 27 and I can fit it by their definition cause I have been around this fandom for over a decade now. Oddly I am less surprised to find out that category is more likely to have spiritual types in it.

That can be a pretty anchoring force in terms of fandom longevity as one who holds something like that a bit closer inside is less likely to up and vanish as easily. The more you invest on a personal level, the less susceptible you are to wavering differences in the generations of furries that come and go....sorta.

The rest of that survey wasn't too surprising, aside the section listed as Problems with the fandom. I feel like that the problems people are listing off there are oddly what makes the fandom what it is to begin with. If you were to "solve" a few of those problems you would turn the fandom into just another frat party full of beer and bros. Which given my opinion from what I see at some cons, is kinda well under way @.=.@. But again, lotta those listed problems contradict themselves which really just shows you got two sides of the fandom. Which I am sure you could back track that all the way to the 90s and the big Lifestyler VS Furry fan debates.

I'm not a spiritual person at all, but from my point of view what holds me to the fandom is definitely the community. I've been a part of other fandoms and a lot of them can be a little too elitist for my liking. But the furry community has always been very friendly and welcoming. :3

Like you said there's two sides to the same coin and I don't think that's ever going to change. XD

I'm also amused by the relationship ones. Males are more likely to be single than females \ non-binary and non-binary are more likely to be polyamorous. I guess for the males it makes sense since about 55% of the fandom is male so I'm just assuming all the girls get snatched up faster. XD And I suppose non-binary peeps are just more accepting of what isn't the norm? So they'll feel more comfortable being in a polyamorous relationship?

Yeah, its pretty much just subjective of the numbers of each gender, too many males, not enough females. Even when you factor in how gay friendly the fandom is. Though we do see to be progressing more and more towards a whole cornucopia of gender identities which as good and fine as it is, I think is gonna make for a really interesting fandom a few years down the road depending on the direction it goes socially.

I agree! I can't wait to see how the fandom will be or change. It's really exciting to think about having a more diverse group of people all come together with a common interest. :3

I think there is a ceiling to that kind of growth honestly. At least before a radical change starts to happen. The fandom as I have seen it progress over the last decade has been pushing hard to try and gain acceptance and draw in who ever it can. But there is a tale of caution to that kind of effort and rail-roading. To accommodate more and more types of folk means that some aspects and ideals of the fandom gotta get a little watered down and made more palatable for the general audience if not just pushed out for the sake of making more conservative minded folk more willing to embrace the new form of furry.

In short, the more the fandom and groups of furs push for main-stream acceptance, the more they will eventually start to alienate those of their own who embraced it on a different level. I suppose this is all a long winded way to say that newer furries are gonna become more likely to describe furries of like 5-15 years ago as weirdos.

Yet, despite all this, take it with a grain of salt, I can only really speak from my own experiences and local experiences with the fandom and with something like this, it really only takes a kinda small group mentality to really change how far people take being a furry or what direction it goes. Some groups/ regions might be more into just partying and smoking up, where as others might be more fursuiting and dance oriented, and others might just be like kinda reserved socially but artistic or such.

They didn't have my option   :(

I'm a Backhoe Loader covered in fur.

Rascal Coyote

actually i was told that greymuzzles, are furries that are 45 years and older in RL, Grey muzzles have nothing to do with how long you have been in the fandom
