So, for those of us with jailbroken/unlocked iPhones (esp. the 1st-gen that was never up here properly in the first place, like me), specifically those from other carriers that have been 'hacktivated', I've finally got the 3.0 Push Notifications working properly!

I just followed this advanced guide here:
http://www.modmyi.com/forums/native-iphone-ipod-touch-app-discussion/663001-fix-iphone-2g-3g-push-fix.html

You need OpenSSH installed at the very least, and some rudimentary shell/UNIX knowledge.  I also like using Cyberduck for SCP but you can do it via the command line as well.  Make sure to grab the 'certs.zip' file in addition to the PushFix binaries from that guy's Mediafire link, too - those are the files from a working phone you need to copy. :)

Also FYI, don't be tempted by the 'easy' way further down in the comments - that whole cydia.iphoneil.net thing screwed up and gave me someone else's notifications or something and wouldn't go away; I changed my IM network password (just in case) after uninstalling it and did it the above 'hard' way instead - works beautifully so far. :D
