My first experience of a furmeet was back roughly 7 years ago. Took a while for us all to sort of pull together and find each other given that finding a fur in Ireland back then was very rare. Now they're everywhere!

On the day we all gathered at the gates of Belfast city hall. Many handshakes and hugs were exchanged between everyone. Day started with everyone going to Burger King for lunch, after that we all went and watched hellboy at the cinema.

The day was rounded off with window shopping, playing DDR and Time Crisis at the arcade and drinks at the pub for the of age amoung us, before we all parted ways. It's one of the memorable days in my life so far.

Attend one of Gizmo's pot-lucks, you can find them in the Lower Mainland Events board.  They're a blast. =)

Call me Naetholix, Neox, Neo or Steve, I respond to all of them. =)

How many people usually go to these furmeets? Are there ever any ones in more public settings like a pub/cafe?

I guess you probably should be looking at the Dinnermeets section of Events.  ;)

Mine may be the odd case out.  I literally went from having never met a furry in real life, to going to the largest furcon in the world (Anthrocon) back in 06.

It was kind of going head first into pure awesome.  You may say it was like Second life, in real life.  That said, furmeets are a different beast from furcons.  Furmeets are usually less organized, more random, different people, and in case of me, I don't really know people at the furmeets, while I had some online friends I met at the con.

I was lucky enough though to have RainRat who sort of invited me over for a games night at his place, I ended up meeting lots of furries, some of which friendships grew from.

Dinner meets are usually easy places to slip in if you want something 'safer' to try out and meet people.  Social situations can always be tricky, as lots of people have established circles of friends already, which is why I think Anthrocon was so great as well, with so many people there was a larger chance of meeting people I could get along with there, as opposed to local meets.

Well, I don't remember much, but I remember Red making me go with another friend when I was 14/15-ish?
Met a couple people, I don't know who but someone walked out in a corset while people giggled, and I went home because I got scared... to bel-air. :birdy:
I've said and done things I regret here, so I just don't do anything instead.
