Ok this is just MY feelings/ opinion here so dismiss them as you will. (I personally voted NDP)

I have no freaking idea how Harper got into office, the whole time he closed himself off from SO many things like interviews and questions all the while pretty much saying *5yr old voice* "NO! If you don't wanna play MY way I will not play with you! Its MY way or NO WAY!" ..... and the fucker won. For the next year if anyone complains about this guy I will seriously have to ask "did you vote for him?" if the answer is yes I will have to concentrate hard not to bitch slap them in the face and tell them to think before voting next time >.=.>

The only comfort I can have is the notion that "well at least I knew better than the old farts out there.." if and when shit goes down.

You said you voted NDP right? So did I and my roomate and apparently a lot of other Canadians, however the NDP haven't always been the anti-Harper vote, just last election you would have pointed to the Liberals for that and as such a fair number would vote for them, classic vote splitting. Proportionally I heard that 60% of Canadians didn't vote for Harper but he got a fairly comfortable majority in the end anyways due to how our system works, I don't think that this is nessesarily a discredit to our system as there's ups and downs to it just that it works this way and will tend to give majorities to those who proportionally only have a plurality.

Well lets hope the NDP can keep the Harper dictatorship in line. Thank the maker the libs didn't make it, separation party all but dead.

I smell...

...A majority government that will do the following, given the chance:

- Revoke gay rights at any turn possible. They've already tried it in past (That commons vote against gay marriage after it was already ratified and done. Twice). Now they can actually do it, and turn the clock back on gay rights an entire decade.

- Sell our resource sector part and parcel to Europe through another NAFTA scale blunder. First right on Canadian resources for Canadian companies, and first right on Canadian services like water? Not anymore.

- Legislate women's wombs. Abortion is a serious, grave thing. It's unpleasant to comprehend. But it's also a free right for a woman to choose on the basis of her own body. A fetus up to the legal abortion limit is not "a person", it's a barely differentiated cell culture with more in common with a sea slug, and about the same amount of brain tissue. It doesn't kill "a person", only a potential person, and in some cases, it will either kill two lives (ectopic pregnancy among a thousand other complications) or ruin the life of both mother and child (How about a raped sixteen year old? A twenty year old university student with four years of studies ahead, who happened to have a condom break and the pill fail).

- Continued Canadian military (Not peacekeeping, military) operations in wars Canada really has no business operating in. Canadian blood for American wars? Really now?

- The purchase of 28 attack jets. Not interceptors or patrol jets for defense, but attack jets. Fighter bombers, purely offensive military hardware intended for assault purposes only. The overhead on these things is about a billion dollars a pop.

- Cutting the electoral funding programs entirely, after having benefited from them directly themselves. Minority? Okay, we'll keep taking taxpayer money. Oh, we're on top now? No money for our competition. *trollface*

- Plans to back federal involvement entirely out of health-care, leaving it to the provinces wholly. Sorry Newfoundland, PEI and smaller have-nots. You're fucked. Enjoy your endemic lack of funding for basic human health considerations.

- Several known fundamentalists are members of Harper's party. I fully expect education will suffer equally if a similar situation to Kitzmiller V. Dover occurs within Canada. For that matter, Canada spawned the fanatics known as Joel's Army, and several of Harper's spear carriers are from similar origins. Just what we need, Christian conservative fascists. We all saw how well that worked out with Bush and medical research. Hint: Stem cell research doesn't occur from massive horrifying fetus farms where they constantly grind up adorable doe-eyed babies. They come from cell cultures, the waste product of artificial insemination which fundamentalist idiots have no problem with, where an average of fourteen embryos are created, then abandoned, before one successful implantation occurs. And the cell cultures in question are divided, lab-sustained lines, some stemming back to cell cultures as old as the 1970s. They don't even need new material anymore; they just culture a new batch from existing germ-lines. Won't stop them from Saving The Precious Babies(tm) at the expense of every man, woman and child alive with a congenital defect.

That's just a very small sampling of what we're in for. It gets worse. Still smell good? Thanks for electing Dubya v.2

Roxxy_Starrz

I can garantee if NO ONE VOTED, the results would have ended up the same anyways. So huddle in your grotto of squalor and breathe deep the stench of aristocracy, disguised as democracy. I for one am not a part of this problem because I stayed at home and played video games while everyone else was out at the ballots picking their favored evil. I could seriously go on for days about my views on the current model of government that we have agreed apon for the western world but don't have the time or space to do so. I do have things to do today afterall.

Note: I realize that certain people will probably express their views on me not voting and try to convince me that my vote matters. I am going to say this once and only one: I have never voted, I am never going to vote and I seriously doubt you can persuade me to change my mind.

Selkit

Congratulations, Roxxy. Good for you on having no influence whatsoever on the system, with a conspiratorial view of how it actually operates (The real fault is not some malicious aristocracy, it's electorate-body incompetence/ignorance and a voting system that's been obsolete since early British Parliamentarian establishment). That said, as a participating voter, I still have every right to say you're contributing to the problem through inaction, and have given up your right to bitch on any aspect of politics by failing to participate at all. Your sole alternative if you really do feel strongly about it is to pick up a rifle and go insurrectionist. Failing that, hey. Congratulations on your utter contempt for the system, but no points for your apathy and meaningless verbal contribution. At least I can look at myself as a voter, and members of my own family as electoral candidates, as influence. You? Not so much. Just a noisy, apathetic example of why if there really is some secret aristocratic conspiracy, it rides on the backs of 40% of Canada.

More interested in Halo or some other mindless drivel instead of actually contributing to society. You do realize, that of that 40%, that's a larger margin than Harper was actually elected by? Had you actually gotten off your asses and voted, we'd either have a real majority (And proper democratic action), or no Harper government, not a minority sponsored majority, granted by an electoral system that isn't even from this side of the last century. Go back to your non-action before you cast aspersions on those of us who actually make the effort. I do know this much; My vote was only one vote, but the margin of victory for the candidate I actually voted for was slim, and I know that I made a difference alongside thirty thousand other Canadians; We kicked a Conservative out of her seat. The system's aging and rubbish, but it still functions on some level, and that's good enough to work from, to make changes for the better with the right amount of participation. Pity about you, though.

QuoteI for one am not a part of this problem because I stayed at home and played video games while everyone else was out at the ballots picking their favored evil.

Yeah you are part of the problem, voter apathy and the general apathy of the populous has always been one of the most easy tools for the 'aristocracy' to exploit, I've always voted and thought it was an important thing to do and as such my views on voting are not likely to be swayed easily.
