A Serious Problem and I need Your Input

From my experience, any group (furries, nerds, gamers, jocks, etc) is made up of people. And, while people individually are usually ok, I find that people in general are animals.

No pun intended.

It has been mentioned several times already, so I will only add my agreement. Get some kind of locked container, and move it to a secure location (your room, a cupboard you can lock, an area of the house that only you have access to, etc) at night. It is pretty much the only way you can ensure that someone isn't going to stick their hand in the cookie jar. Some people will steal anything that isn't tied down, including some pretty weird things, so having an unsecured money jar is an outright invitation to those among us who have no conscience, or are unable to control themselves.

I'm surprised that something like this hasn't happened before, and while it utterly sucks that it did happen, I hope that you can find a resolution that works for everyone so that it doesn't happen again. Good luck. ^^

Hi. Sorry about the late contact back, Star.

It makes me really sorry to hear what has happened. I was there at that meet, but I didn't pay much attraction to the donations jar. I now wish I've been more observant now. As for what to do now... I'm most saddened that someone would take money from our own, that there was a bad egg in the mists.

As others has said, hiding the jar is a good idea. I have an idea for a second jar though. Where there is the public one where guests put money in, and a second hidden one where the money gets transferred too every hour or too. I say that also because I never saw it safe to donate in a jar out in the open. Also another idea is for your roommates to take turns jar watching each meet? Having a mandatory sign in book would be a must, as I know it'd drive me crazy not knowing who showing up in my place.

I do have some understanding about how Star feels in this matter. I get that she wants to provide an excellent furmeet for everyfurry, which she's been doing. However, I can see the her furmeet going as invite/private as a good thing for the time being.

The reasons?
1, As much as I appreciate Star's kindness, others maybe taking it for granted. (Which may have happened with the one who toke the money.)
2, So Star can tryout different systems of doing things to prevent things like this from happening again.
3, Having that control on who attends the meet means much less stress while figuring out such systems.

Of course, I say these in a way that the meet will return to open door once systems are in place.

Which ever happens. Meet goes private/invite only or is shut down all together, I do understand and support what Star does. Imagine how stress is going on here. I know I've gone crying over less stressful things for this. Whatever happens, it's her right to do so, and there's nothing wrong with that.

I do hope I've helped by saying these things. Good luck Star! :3

i'm very sorry to hear this happen *hugs*

like everyone had already suggested . . . instead of a donation jar have a cash box and transfer the money into a SAFE (if possible or some place safe) every shift or when it's time to sleep.  pre-reg is a good idea to the point were some ppl still pop up so a sigh in sheet is a good back up tho there are still a few flaws in that like: 1) fake info 2) privet info that some ppl don't like giving out ... so ether you or those you put in charge also putting stamp or wrist bands would help who sigh in or not maybe different colours for (up to you) . . . and again a cash box and a safe if you really want to go all out is to set up an alarm or/and camera watching the area wer the cash box would be...

hope this help a bit, keep on shining Star, and make who ever did it wished they never been born

(hope you understand what i'm trying to say)
