Well... I've seen worse trainwrecks.  The girls problems clearly aren't around being a furry... like almost all psychological fixations it seems like a combination of depression and low self-esteem, along with a clear need for acceptance.  On the other hand, as someone who likes to bomb around town in ears and a tail from time to time (DEFINITELY not every day) I can relate a bit- it IS fun to shake peoples reality a bit!

On the other hand... I can hold a job, have normal social relations and use the identity for street/stage performance and other productive things.

Also of interest- "Animal Planet" is working on a show about people who identify with animals in various ways and are planning a segment on Therians/Lycanthropes (in reaction to kids emulating 'Twilight' apparently :'( ).   The producers contacted me (unsolicited  ) due to my activity in the Otherkin community where they had been posting looking for people to give them advice and possibly appear on their show.   Obviously, reactions to the idea in Otherkin community were mixed, but it was interesting to have a conversation with the people on the production side. They were looking for someone who 'dressed the part' regularly, as it were...  I suppose the term would be 'Lifestyler' according to wikipedia.  There seems to be some crossover between communities, but the terminology is different.

I talked to them about my views on the various different perspectives of why people identify as Otherkin, my experiences with the public in costume, whether it affected my ability to get a date (totally the opposite!  :-3 ) etc.

Television is an entertainment business.  They are interested in getting reactions and were definitely disappointed that I didn't have any particular social or personal problems contributing to or arising from my personal identity, nor from my decision to dress up in public (also that I don't full-suit nor wear it all the time).

To the best of my knowledge no compensation was offered, nor was it discussed with me at any point.

No, I'm not going to be on TV (if/when I go on camera it'll be on MY terms) but I am told they did find someone to interview for the show.

Quite frankly, the only way such a production would ever get done properly is if the Fandom did it themselves and EVEN THEN not everyone would be happy- the communities involved are far too diverse.
