The public transit tax credit is a federal tax credit, not a BC one.  It applies to all monthly- or longer tickets valid for all forms of public transit, like the Translink monthly/annual passes and anything like monthly passes on ferries.  Full details here:  http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/transitpass/

So common transit passes issued by TransLink buses and ticket machines are no longer valid for income tax returns? (Ones that last 90 minutes)

They NEVER qualified.  It has always been Monthly or Yearly passes (or in other provinces, weekly as well).
