everyone - please put the following listing in your cell phone.  

make an I.C.E. listing.  i c e stands for  In Case of Emergency.  

the police, medical professionals, and fire departments look for this listing so they do not have to start at the first listing on your phone, making call after call, asking everyone if they know someone that fits your description.  and for those that know about this listing, in case you lose your phone it can be easily returned to you. 

if you are injured and lying unconscious in a hospital would you want someone calling everyone you know and asking them who you are?  by making the ICE listing the person assigned to make that call will be able to get hold of the one person you want to know, and who would know who else to call on your behalf.  

hello,  this is officer smith calling - click.  hello this is officer smith calling.  do you know someone that is about .... in height, ... # in weight, and has a ...(insert tattoo, scar or ? ... on his .....?  or would you want to have them call just one person, ask that question and then have your family or designated representative come to the hospital?  

please help the professionals speed up the process of figuring out who you are.  sure you say you never go anywhere without your wallet but let's assume that maybe you get mugged, your wallet is stolen and you get bashed up side the head.  now you are laying in a pool of your blood and can't speak for yourself.  your I.C.E. listing will help them immensely.

My mom told me about this too, but then I realised, nearly all cell phones (for obvious privacy reasons, some info stored being ruining if in the wrong hands sometimes, unfortunately) have various password / lock schemes, and I do not believe there are master keys.

The iPhone maybe, I believe I've heard in the US traffic cops can search your iPhone, but maybe that's on request to unlock and unrelated.

I considered just printing a laminated backing "ICE - #########" on the back...

I use a laminated card in my wallet. My friends a paramedic and they check medic alerts and wallets first. Cell phones are generally password locked and not reliable (or in an accident get broken).

I also have the medic alert but the laminated card is handy since it doesn't require the yearly subscription to keep it updated.

Unless you like being the victim of identity theft lock your phone. This is incredibly outdated advice. Oh and no mugger is going to take your wallet and not take your phone. If you really wanna be paranoid about being identified then have your name tattooed on your arm.

another thought is to get a pendant and necklace with a usb chip inside.  take it home and enter your emergency contact and other medical information.  can be purchased at a kiosk booth in metrotown mall.  probably available at other malls around.  cost depends on pendant and chain

I know, but unless the team has a computer on ready and knows 100% that the X minutes they take to put it in their computer, gets them standardised guaranteed information, it could be dangerous to take the risk. I am sure there is some sort of ID system though, such as a pendent with a number, that the team can quickly look up - no chip - and a recognised system.

The likelyhood that you get mugged, you wallet and phone stolen, lie unconscious in your own blood is unlikely, but it may happen.

A card where it lists who to contact in case of emergency is always helpful. I would welcome the idea if it these get created at Vancoufur, provided enough participants feel comfortable providing this personal information.

Speaking as someone who worked in the trauma rooms at VGH, I PROMISE  you, nobody is going to take the time to get your phone unlocked, or use a USB chip around your neck.

I have never once seen a person (who isn't a drunken/high retard) come through the doors the very qualified social worker can't figure out who they are by some means.

Generally speaking you come in with a person with you, if not, a wallet (you could argue someone could take your wallet, but they'd take your phone too). The reality is someone will report you missing even if you were gone an extended period of time. The ER staff don't need your name to save your ass anyway, they can figure all of that out later. This is unnecessary, and I'd rather leave my phone locked.

Never a bad idea to put a phone number on your cell's casing incase you lose it though  ;D
