Was skimming latest Common Group magazine and saw advert
of The Institute of Shamanic Medicine (ISM) and them offering "free information evenings"
and initially thought furries in the GVRD would be interested because one free event in Calgary was "Power Animal Drum Journey"  and another free event was in Vancouver (I thought maybe they would offer the Animal event in Vancouver)

I was assuming the shamanic part was First Nations shamanism.

However when I went to their website I noticed part of it said "Daily Personal Message from the Mayan World".

Nothing in the advert said Mayan,
so if you saw an ISM ad and just phoned ISM (skipping the website) there might be no warning that this was a Mayan thing.

I'm skeptical of this Mayan 2012 thing ... so just want you to be cautious of ISM (the institute).

Hmmm, if it was just some side advert then I don't really see much harm in it. I do think the 2012 prediction is full of hot air simply cause of how many predictions have been made about the end of the world in the first place. Its had that "boy who cried wolf" effect.

I actually find it more interesting that there is a Institute for such a thing though. But at the same time that makes me leery of it, a very good friend of mine is actually practices some First Nations Shamanism  and we have talked quite a bit on the subject and she has even told me some of her practices and has giving me little bits of advice and encouragement when it came to progressing on my own spiritual path. Its actually quite interesting.  :)
