Frustrations!

I've been job hunting since May, when I graduated from my Administrative Assistant program. It had been hard, having only heard back for one phone interview out of all the resume's that I had sent out. Then a few weeks ago I was called in for an interview at a place I didn't really expect to get on at. The interview went well, and I was put through to the next stage of the hiring process/training.

Now here is the frustrating part. Since this is still part of the hiring stage, I don't get paid on a normal basis. Not to mention that the training I have to do takes me and my potential boss, out of town, and can only afford to be done one day a week. These training sessions include setting up appointments with people whom I know, to meet with them for an hour, in order to inform them what the company that I will be working for does, and to see if they could be potential clients.

In order to proceed to the next part of the training, which is a 60 hour course, and an exam that I must pass, I need to have 10 clients. In the past 3 weeks, I have gone out for training twice, and have had 7 meetings. Of those seven, there's only 2 who might become clients. I might have a third one, if I could ever get a hold of the person to make an appointment, since they have expressed interest.

I was suppose to go for more training this coming monday. However, that's not happening anymore, since out of all the people I called, I could only get in contact with one, and even then it's a maybe. So no training this week, and possibly no training next week, since the monday is labor day, then tuesday is the first day of school for those younglings out there.

There are 2 hour training sessions on fridays in town, but those are more for learning how to become more successful within the appointments that we make with people.

So here I am, broke, with no source of income, trying to break through into a job, without a set time line about when I will be paid for the time that I have already put into it. It's just frustrating, since I know that if I didn't have to travel out of town in order to do this initial training, that I could probably already had my 10 clients by now, and started working on the course training. I just feel as though I am hitting a brick wall right now.

As of right now, I am looking for a part time job that I can do, while leaving mondays, fridays, and saturdays open. Why saturdays? Because that is my scheduled day to meet with my non furry friends for gaming.

Uh oh.

What is the name of the company that "hired" you?  Primerica, Amway, Mona Vie, Direct Energy?

Anyhow, doesn't matter...please type in "<company> employment scam" into google right now.

Yeah, Uni's onto it here. That's most likely a pyramid-type system - you're never going to make money with it, ever, so I'd suggest researching it as he suggests, and then running for it.

I did research is, and it is a reputable business. The thing is that I need to be liscenced in order to be a financial professional... and the boss wants to make sure that I have a client base before he pays the $5000 it will cost for me to take the 60 hour program and exam. The reason why we are going out of town, is because I am still rather new to the town that I am currently in, so all the people I know are in my old home town, and that's where I have to go for training.

Okay.

Just out of curiosity, what company is it, and what are you selling?

Pentara

The company is Key Life Financial Group. They are about helping middle income families save and make money, through investments, insurance and other financial options. The agents work as the middle man for families and the larger investment companies. We work to find the best solution for each family, then work with the larger companies to help our clients complete and understand what they are getting in to. If it turns out, that we're unable to do anything to help a client, then we'll let them know that as soon as possible.

Often financial groups are MLM businesses*, which are real legit businesses, however they operate in an unethical way.  In order to be "successful" at these types of jobs, you will be forced to conduct business unethically (signing up friends and family) and working long hours (15+ hours a day).

Here's how it works:  You only get paid if you sell a service to other people.  So naturally the first thing they try to get you to do is sell to your family, because in general you trust your family to not rip you off.  So now your family has the service, now what?  Now you've got to start branching out to friends and neighbours, so you start walking around malls and making friends, trying to hawk your product.
But wait!  Now you're competing with other "agents" for people in the same pool of people.  So you've got to branch out harder and faster, work longer hours to get those sales.  And so on and so on.  Now you're from Prince George, how long until that pool of people gets tapped out?

You will probably not do well if you do not have a massive network of people to sell your service to or work long hours.  The vast majority of people who take these jobs eventually quit in debt or with savings depleted after putting shitloads of their time and money in.  The company will say "Oh, they were lazy, they didn't want to put in the work to make it happen for them.  See, you have to work hard, that means this is a real job!"

They may be an offshoot(or a renaming) of "World Financial Group", do a search on them if you want to learn more. http://www.google.ca/search?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&channel=s&hl=en&source=hp&q=world+financial+group+scam&meta=&btnG=Google+Search

Here's my thoughts on this:  A "real" company would not ask you to 1.) train for free  2.) sell shit to your family.

* There are a number of established financial groups which are legit like Sun Life, but anyone can call themselves a "financial group"
