: Posting issues?
: Rushlight July 30, 2014, 01:28:32 -06:00
So, i have had a few problems posting things recently. I can enter text into the forum posting system, but when i post it cuts it off after a few lines, deleting all but a sentence or two.
Also, whenever i upload a picture it comes in as blank. This is kind of a problem for someone who wants to post his poetry here.. cause... well I can't!

This is probably due to the major server crash which Rainrat and Unition are still working on fixing up

you arent the only one having the issue. myself and three others i have talked to are having this issue too. XD Ahah. I find that its mostly with copy and pasting and the editor not liking certain characters. Remove the certain characters and itll post fine. Just a pain trying to figure out what is triggering it when you copy and paste. (only had issues with actual typing if i was trying to type out on a post that already had been auto shortened due to the copy paste issue. Otherwise, it worked fine.)

Thanks for narrowing it down. I found a description of the problem, based on the new information

http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=472921.0

It seems there may not be a fix, except for fixing the problem characters.

except for fixing the problem characters.

The suggestion recommended changing the database to UTF-8, through a conversion feature found within SMF. Could that have been done in the past and not this round of installation?

Could file permissions be fixed to let pictures be uploaded?

May I inquire as to what the delays are in adding back essential features such as registration in events, and a means to make a profile?

So what is the solution that the rest of us who do not speak computer can follow?  I need to post a large chunk of text.

>Copy text from your document (but keep document open for reference)
>Paste into forums. replace commas, apostrophe's, quotes, etc with the forum charset versions:  ' " , . etc
>Click post, and if something cuts off, find where it does, reference your open document to find where it happened and replace those characters with the forum generated ones ( you can type it into the forum and then copy the rest of your document after the fixed character.)
>Rinse and repeat if you have other cutoffs.

This is what i have to do when i post something from a copy pasted document outside of the forums.
