: "What is Furry?" Cute comic (Mature content)
: Rwaulie April 26, 2014, 01:03:37 -06:00
Cute "What is Furry?" Style comic by Keovi and Kyell Gold for the website OhJoySexToys.

I liked that while it did depict sex, it did so in a non-creepy fetish way unlike most other articles. It spoke of the personal accepting side of the community.

There is actually something kind of endearing about that comic. Kind of echoes a sentiment that I felt when I was just getting into the fandom. ^.=.^

"Furry isn't all about sex. but it's why I got into it" wtf?

"People like me for who I am...well atleast for the character I play" wtf?

This seems really degrading.

Only incredibly shallow people like someone based on fursona, regardless, a real dull person with a "sparkle dog" fursona will only get so far before falling flat on their face. The sentiment behind the comic is that the furry fandom is (generally) a more easy going and welcoming place where you are less likely to be judged because of who you feel you are or what you enjoy.

There are in fact people who originally got into the fandom because of sex, and they are no less furries than the rest of us. There's nothing bad or degrading about it.

I really like the comic myself, but as those who know me know, I'm really sick of sex-negative attitudes in the fandom.

I just thought it was cute. It was posted on a website that reviews sex toys so of course it's going to mention sex. They covered it in a really sweet way compared to the usual furry sex= creepy fetish.

Of course everyone sees things differently.

I am in the same category as Silvermink, sure we are not all about sex, but the way we try and drape a bed-sheet over this elephant in the room as a poor attempt to hide it actually makes it worse because we show that we are ashamed of it. Thus it becomes a great sore point in which to attack and shame furs over.

Think of it this way example wise, which is more fun for people to bully? An overweight kid who does everything he can to try and avoid awkward situations where his weight may become the focus... or the overweight kid who gives no shits what the "normal kids think and just owns it.

Rwaulie makes a good point on this as well, this wasn't hardcore sloppy sex with all the text being "yiff yiff yiff", it does show the actual relationship forming side of things.

Yes. What ever your fetish is it can be furried. it's welcomed, since most people are coming out of there shelter and want to explore their own sexuality. There should still be a point of courtesy. Yah a Fat kid will be made fun of but a furry would be stabbed because he looks like he'd be a deviant dog pumper. Having a hobby that you promote to be sexually is very unprofessional.

This begs the question... who are you trying to prove furries as normal to? Potential employers, big name colleges, political running's, your pastor? There is no such thing as a professional furry because furry isnt and has never been something to be taken that dead serious. You seem to be operating under the assumption that all furs are into bestiality and list off their fetishes on their resumes and take every opportunity to fling their sexuality around in public. The opposite is actually true, more are concerned with trying to look normal in everyone's eyes, even when those people they are trying to please have 0 interest in changing their minds about furries as a whole. the epitome of hitting ones head against a wall.

If you are making a point that sexuality is too open in this fandom then I have to say that its an aspect of this fandom that predates any of us and isn't going away, because sexuality isn't solely a furry thing, its human nature, regardless of how much its denied.

What does professionalism have to do with it, exactly?

I also think (as I've said to many people before) that you're overestimating how much most people know and care about furries.

Only shallow people judge people based on their fursonas! <Immediately judges people based on their fursona>

Some adults don't like going around dressed as a clown. They hold ties to things that have been able to keep people efficient and respectable to others while working as a unit in a society that has major gaps between its peoples perspectives. One may say they like the art, the creativeness, the whimsical of furry. It may be done in a respectable way, in turn, drawing respectable people but when you say you like these things with fet' gear on while in public, a binder full of porn and a contact list of people by fetish...it doesn't look like something that could be respected or held high in it's opinions.

Most people that have had the internet when they where young know what furries are about. It must be impossible to not be able to furryize something, so this stuff gets passed around. Lots of people I work have at one point made a joke or have shown media of furries. It's never in good taste. These are the people that come into your house and fix your plumbing, these are the people that evaluate your work history, the people that lease the apartment you're in. Trying to climb into a position that holds respect and integrity is a lot easier when not tied to lewd references. Those people that I've overestimated about knowing what furry is, well, they still care when they come across pictures of a children's cartoon animals getting it on. Oh? It's them animal people again. Them fur club people. I really hope one of them ain't makin' my Subway.

Well, i for one liked that comic. While it may not portray the ENTIRE fandom accurately, it certainly portrays some of it well.
I do like that it's in part about relationships, but also, you can't deny the inherit sexual nature of furries. while we are a fandom, we're also just a giant fetish club XD (sorry to implicate anyone who really inst into the sex stuff, i for one am a sick minded bastard who assumes these sort of things)

Regardless the characters in this comic have their own life stile which is perfectly fine, even if it doesn't match how we as furries live.

you know its funny you mention subway as there are quite afew sanitary procedures they have to go through before taking a customers order not to mention be wearing fresh gloves so them being a furry shouldn't have anything to do with your sandwich or anything in the food business really

yes there are plenty of stereotypes that float around furries and for some are more true then others. There are quite a number of successful people out there that are furries as well

Someone reported this thread for mature content. After looking at it, the discussion here doesn't seem to be crossing the line yet.

As to whether a link to mature content is allowed, if we disallowed links to mature sites, we wouldn't be able to link to Furaffinity. Just don't link to something super hardcore or make a thread specifically for linking to adult content. I'd prefer if the mature links more were clearly labelled though.

I added a Mature Content warning to the topic title.

I'm really surprised that this comic caused such conflict.  I just posted it cause I thought it was cute.
