: Hitachi DZ-GX5020A DVD Video Camera
: Ryan August 13, 2009, 10:59:39 -06:00
It's only a couple of years old and I haven't used it much because I don't have the programs to get the video off of it.  It takes mini dvd discs for video and an SD memory card for pictures.

includes: charger, couple batteries, tv input and a carrying bag.

Let me know if you would like it, I'm hoping to get at least 200 for it (because it was a lot more expensive new).

If it's mini DVD, you can put it into any standard computer DVD drive and pull the movies straight off it, if I'm not mistaken.

that's what I thought too.  The files that come off aren't avi or mpeg or even mov.  So I can't edit them or clip them.

You can do some really basic editing ON the camera itself, but not as much as I would have liked.  It's great if you're just want a fun, starter camera.

If it is like the one that I have, it records straight to a DVD player format (Same format that DVD moves you buy are in), you can test my theory by recording something and then try to play it on a DVD player (You may need to finalize the disc first though). If that is the case and it plays on your DVD player , all you need is download a DVD ripping program and take the video off the DVD you recorded on and the ripped files. Hope this helps.

From what I've heard, you can only get those programs (legally) in the States.

I just bought a new Flip camcorder, so I'm kinda interested in moneys...

According to a review I read, you can't edit the movies once recorded to disk.

Not to mention the mini-DVD media is kind of pricey.

Would have been nice if it would let you record the video right to memory card, but it won't.

I'd go for it if you were willing to drop the price.

As it is, I have the sony version of the same thing, records to mini dvd's and snaps to memory card, all it needs is a $80 battery and a $50 charger (and the $20 proprietary USB connection for the computer optionally) before I can use it.  The battery in it probably still works, but after being dead so long I doubt it would hold a charge.
