Some laptops partition the drive to have recovery data on a separate partition to reinstall such things. If it doesn't have that, but you have a valid Windows 8 Key (I'm assuming windows 8 still uses keys?) then you can download a backup copy of windows 8 and use that to install, then enter your own key. So long as you have legitimate ownership of the software (came with computer, or bought, or such) then using a backup copy for recovery is fine (if you're worried about legal stuff).

My recommendation is to scrap Windows 8 altogether though and use Windows 7 =P

actually if you extract the drive and have a laptop drive dock for a pc. i could recover data from your machine for you. but yea. i think the loss of windows 8 is a blessing X3 go with windows 7

well that is all fine and dandy but the problem with that quite a few computers are not backwards compatible especially when it comes to operating systems. You should really check to see if the machine is capable of backwards compatibility before reverting to older OSs. you may run into problems such as driver issues or hardware/software not working correctly.

Just something that needs to be pointed out.

Bear with me, I might have at the very least a friend who can send a disk image of his own copy. You will need a valid key, which is typically on the underside of a laptop. Also check and make sure they didn't wipe the recovery partition; If they did, that's gross incompetence on the part of their technicians, and you should send it back, and explain to them, they managed to destroy part of their own system's functionality.
