Do any of you prefer surf fishing and/or lake fishing anywhere in the area?
1: Yes! i love it *pulls out huge tackle box*
2: I dont go often, but when i do i enjoy it.
3: Iv never had the chance to go out, but would like to try.
4: Its not really my thing
5: Im a proud member of PETA, dont kill our sea kittens!
Just figured i would post this curious poll. Just went and got my licence 2 days ago and have been trying out all the different bays and breakwaters. When i head downtown though i cant bring my dog with me and it gets pretty quiet sometimes.. Rock cod season will be opening up at the end of the month and there is plenty of fun to be had catching perch, salmon, greenlings, Cabezon's, and Sole till then!
heck yes!
I only tried it a few times a child. It's something I would like to learn to do properly sometime.
Do you eat them after?
It really depends on what kind of fish we catch. If the fish is in legal season and of a reasonable size then yes i do normally keep them. But if you were the one doing the fishing the choice of weather or not it gets thrown back is completely your own. If we were at a place that beach fires were allowed i normally like to fillet and pan fry/plank on site. They taste much better that way, especially salmon. I am kind of new to the whole salt water fishing scene but when it comes to fresh water its second nature to me.
Having said that Salt water is more accessible for people who do not have vehicles, but the odds of catching something either small or huge vary greatly. Whilst lake fishing usually produces simple trout, bass, and the occasional perch if your in the right places. When i was fishing the break water downtown some divers came up from the #2 drop site and said they saw ling cod that were over 10-15 pounds. Those will be in season around June from what i hear but i like to stick to surf perch which are around 2-3 pounds and rock cod which average from 2-5 pounds.
Maby by chance you are more experienced in the Saltwater area Red?
yeah i am more of a salt water fisher, gunna get my boaters license this summer as well ^^
I was never really any good at it, but I liked to go. I did catch rainbow trout before though. It was tasty.
@ Zenia: Rainbow trout and eastern brook trout have to be my most fav fresh water fish. Perch is also equally just as good, theres just so much filleting to do because they are quite small. They make damn tasty fish and chips though!
@Red: Thats pretty awesome :3 I'v been planning to get a kayak next month hopefully, so i can at least get a little ways from shore. But watching vids of salmon dragging kayakers all over the place kinda makes me worry about getting pulled out into open waters, or something equally as hazardous. D:
