: New Rockhound Group for Furs
: blue-vulpine January 27, 2013, 04:54:11 -07:00
Heya Gang!

I just started a group for RockHounds on FA, and I would like to extend a welcome here for anyone who may be interested. The group is focused around Rock & Gem Hunters/Collectors, Lapidarists(Stone Artisans), and Spiritual Stone Users.

Do you like to explore the back country to dig in rock quarries? Comb the beach for mysterious stones and fossils? Practice stone healing or energy manipulation?

Then this group is definitely for YOU! From exploring to healing, we are trying to create a community of like-minded individuals to share experiences, specimens and knowledge.

-Rockhounds of FA

Also, I would encourage you to share your thoughts, ideas, experiences if you have any. The group is interested in things both Physical and Meta-Physical and is not biased to one or the other.

I'm also hoping to get fieldtrips going this spring, where we would go to pre-determined mineral sites and start collecting, so I may get a blog going to share experiences when that is happening.

So please, check out our gallery @ Rockhounds of FA: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/rockhounds (http://www.furaffinity.net/user/rockhounds)
You will see that the group is new, and there isn't much in the gallery yet, but I'm hoping to fix that with some other like-minded individuals.

I know that you guys are interested in harvesting your own stone, but I thought I should mention that there is an annual Rock and Gem Show in Port Alberni, should be the second weekend in March. They have rocks in every format; from raw right from the source, to partially worked, to fully polished.

Something you guys might want to check out. ^.~

Wow, it's cool there are people interested in this. My family used to do a lot of rockhounding, and the past two years I worked in a metaphysical store and my personal specialty was the stones.

Wow, really glad to see that there's some interest for this here. When I am back on the island, I will probably be planning an outing or two. If anyone has access to a 4 x 4 vehicle, that would be helpful otherwise we will have to limit the trip two sites that do not require a 4 x 4 to get to
I can see that we already have a few people here who are experienced with stones, and we can always use help identifying what we find. I've read about a couple of neat sites on Southern Vancouver Island that can offer flecks of gold and various gemstones. Keep checking back here for updates on the next outing. In the next few days, I will try and pick a day that works for everybody who is interested in tagging along on an outing.  Weather permitting of course ^^

Well I might be in. I'm a hobby jeweler and cut simple gems from time to time.
I grew up next to an old quartz mine in Ontario. Back when it was in use, some of the stuff the miners couldn't use was dumped onto the family property as road filler. Our boat ramp was made of quartz and all my life I've been finding some of the most amazing crystals washed up on our shore.
I've got quite a collection, especially since my geologist grandmother passed and we cleaned out her basement.

I wouldn't mind participating in this! It seems really interesting and I've always had a fascination with stones, but didn't look too far into it
because I didn't exactly chase after the thought. <:
But going on a field-trip or two would be great haha.
