: Any fans of the original Command and Conquer series?
: Tef November 04, 2012, 11:53:41 -07:00
For the sake of clarification, by "original" I meant the C&C Red Alert and Tiberian Dawn series.
Despite Red Alert 2 as being my favourite of all C&C games that Westwood has created, the originals have a nostalgic place in my heart.

I'm in quite a nostalgic mood at the moment, that's for sure.

Yeah when I heard you say original command and conquer I thought of tiberian dawn. I've spent hours and hours playing as GDI or NOD.

One thing that really made the game for me was the music.

Frank Klepacki you are a god sir

A fan must have it stashed in his closet somewhere:

(bought on its release date too! at least digitally preserved on a 20GB Maxtor...disc long degraded)

I seem to remember Chrono APCs or similar, maybe those were the RA: Aftermath expansions.

For Tiberian I started with Sun, which I assume is RA:2's era. I should find it Dawn... It looks like what I am looking for in a game.

I liked C&C Generals. Please don't hurt me. ;)

I also played Tiberian Sun a bit, but it didn't grab me. I'm not a big RTS person to begin with, though - my brain just doesn't seem to work in the kind of "big picture" strategic way needed to be good at them. I'm more of a tactics/details guy.

I never found C&C to be very micro heavy. I mean in the original red alert I would just build tons and tons of heavy tanks and steam roll the enemy. :P

I've a copy of C&C along with some of the add-ons they did for it. (As well as a number of other older RTs games) Haven't played it in a while though, been a bit ... distracted from pulling it out.

@Mkaelus: Probably with the exception of the third Allied level, which involves you commandeering Tanya, an artillery tank, and a medic.  ;)
And Act on Instinct - I remember that was the very first song I've heard when I was 5-6 years old. Never gets old then, never gets old now.

@Jim: I envy you. xD

Envy, how so?

I kind of miss playing those games with up to as many as 8 people at once back when I used to help at a net-cafe. Occasionally I've toyed with the idea of a mini game meet or something... any thoughts on that?

Gaargh, wrong word. Sorry, no really.  :(

I mean, that's very lucky of you. The earliest, most reliable version of C&C Red Alert for me is on the C&C The First Decade Compilation. xP

Look what I found! An easy way to play red alert online!

http://cncnet.org/ (http://cncnet.org/)
http://redalert1.com/ (http://redalert1.com/)

I will try to get this to work and then I'd love to play with anyone who wants to.

I guess I'd opt for the second link myself.

p.s. Blah, my laptop is still running Leopard. Whatever software these guys are offering runs on at least a Snow Leopard. #oldlaptopproblems. Thank you for your help, nevertheless.

I dunno if you checked but cncnet runs Red Alert, it also runs Tiberian Dawn, Sun and RA2 all in one.
