: What should I do? (Fursuit comission gone sour)
: Drake Wingfire October 30, 2012, 12:15:49 -06:00
So I have been 10 months into waiting on a fursuit commission, the quoted time to start said suit was only 6 months, every time I tried to contact the guy I commissioned I have gotten rather vague and uninformative answers. Now it has reach the point that any e-mails or notes sent through his FA have gone completley unanswered. At this point I have giving him a little more time to reply. But if push comes to shove I am gonna demand my $500 down payment returned.

Does anyone have any advice on what I can do? Is there some way to dispute this with pay-pal and make sure that I get my money back?

I've had this happen to me before, it wasn't a commission, but I ordered a Gothic Lolita dress that cost around $100 and they never sent it and no matter how many e-mails/messages I sent them they never responded. That happened a couple years ago and I've gotten a little wiser when it comes to ordering things online.

If this was commissioned via eBay or Amazon, they have a lot of ways to help get your money back for you and they can be very helpful. If this was commissioned in another way it can be a little harder, especially since so much time has passed.

I found these:

Paypal https://www.paypal.com/ca/webapps/mpp/security/buyer-protection-resolution (https://www.paypal.com/ca/webapps/mpp/security/buyer-protection-resolution)
Consumer's Association of Canada http://www.consumer.ca/1657 (http://www.consumer.ca/1657)
Government of Canada http://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/cmc-cmc.nsf/eng/fe00129.html (http://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/cmc-cmc.nsf/eng/fe00129.html)

(If you would like more links that may be useful to you, just let me know)

Also as a future reference make sure to ask about your commission no longer then a month after they said they'd start making it, sometimes people forget or on the downside they're trying to take your money. Perhaps only pay half first and wait till they ship your suit and then pay the other half, an honest person should be fine with making an arrangement for you.

I wish you luck and I hope you get your suit/money~!

Seconding Nibi. However, Paypal most likely won't be any help, because they have a 45-day dispute window on transactions and ten months is waaaay outside of that. D: But that is an unacceptable time to go with little to no communication, eeep.

Can I also suggest that you try http://artists-beware.livejournal.com/? (http://artists-beware.livejournal.com/?) The whole community there is made up of people who can give advice on commissions gone bad; they might be able to help you too. But I hope you're able to get your money back, either way.

Thanks for the help guys, it does suck though that pay-pal would be little to no help, 45 days is a crazy small time frame when most transactions done though them are all long distance purchases and shipping.

Luckily I was able to get a hold of the guy at long last and supposedly he has been trying to play catchup on some other suits. Though I did make sure to specify that I wanted a real concrete time frame here (which he asked what I would want for such). I know that any chance of getting it for Howl was gone weeks ago so I told him that I want it for the second week of December, giving him pretty much one more month to get things in order and done.
