Hope you all had a pleasant summer, it sure was great meeting all of you at the different events and look forward to do so in the future.
In the meantime, I am starting to look for a new place to live for the next two months for my landlord is selling the house. Currently I am debating to go with a studio over a room and welcome any suggestions and advise. I am considering different neighborhoods such as Fairview and Mount Pleasant, downtown being too expensive. In addittion, I am also considering Kensington and Renfrew in East Van as they are next to the major Expo and Millenium skytrain line.
Depending on the choice I will also be in need of furniture and welcome any stores you can suggest.
Looking forward hearing from you all.
I used to live in the Mount Pleasant/Cedar Cottage area, and found it to be a decent neighbourhood with rent that was exceptionally low, given its proximity to downtown. That was pre-olympics, though...I'd imagine it hasn't changed too much, relative to other neighbourhoods, but is probably more expensive than it used to be. I've also had several friends that have lived in the Hastings Sunrise and Burnaby Heights areas that have nothing but good things to say about it. You'll sacrifice an extra ten minutes to bus to a skytrain station, but the savings in terms of rent might be worth it, for you. Anyways, that's my quick two cents. ^^
Thank you for your two cents Elias, much appreciated. I've got word that Mount Pleasant had some drug and gang related violence though they are attempting to keep this under control.
Interesting observation: When filling out an application in an apartment building in Mount Pleasant there was a clause that tenants were not to perform prostitution, drug dealing or gang related activities.
