Well I have to say it's been an interesting summer as far as discovering myself has gone. But more importantly this summer also marked my first step into the furry fandom and my first fursuit. Why am I posting this? Well honestly....
I'm bored.
So here's what I've learned from my first experience. First off, making the suit was hella fun! Not to mention a learning experience. Since I had to work with a low budget, I ended up using $9 blankets from jysk & walmart, and ordered myself fluffy footie jammies of the same material. :3 All that together (without shipping) cost me about $70 in 'fur'. I got the foam on sale and mom still had her plastic canvas stuff so, in total the suit cost me just over $100 to make. Here was the result.

I've also learned that my whole family (extended and nuclear) is on board with my suiting and furriness... although my sister is a lil weirded out by it but that's just par for the course of how she is with me and the things I do.
Over all it was a blast, and even though I thought it turned out a lil crummy, people still wanted pictures with Buddy (me). However, I only got 2 wears outta the suit in total. The seams were coming apart and the leg fluff was wearing thin after only one use. This was just the footed jammies, which would be the manufactures' fault. (I did let them know what I thought of their product btw. If it can't survive simple walking around and sitting, how are they supposed to survive as pyjamas?) Anyway I will eventually replace the blanket fur with the actual faux stuff. I've learned what I can do better at, what needs improving, and what I need to work on later on down the road. I might get him fixed up for halloween though. This whole thing was certainly a live and learn process, but it was just a blast to be in suit and have fun.
One awesome memory I have though is the asian families (just the asians!) kept shoving their babies into my arms and snapping pictures. I won't soon forget the 2 week old newborn I got to hold. what a CUTIE! Anyhoo, on to the next project. My fursona. :3
Now that being said, out of curiosity, what are your guys favourite or best memory of your first time suiting! :3
Great job on your first suit!!!
Tho as a fursuiting rule of thumb, don't hold someone else's kid(even if they want you to). For most suits the grip in the hands makes it difficult to hold things. If you drop the child or loose grip on them in anyway bad things happen..........
Either way I'm glad you had fun and the suit looks great!!

I was trying to tell them no. That's the sad thing but none of them seemed to understand english -.-;;;; they were tourists, that much I know. There was a foreign cruise ship in dock. Honestly, I don't like holding other people's kids. I get to nervous. Really it's all the more reason why I shouldn't.
Looks good! And it looks like you are having fun while suiting, which is the important part. Way to be creative and source some less-expensive materials for the suit. Gives me some inspiration to get started on more projects myself! (the cost of faux fur has kept me from trying my hand at more sewing projects...) >_>
This is so awesome! Looks comfy as well. XD
I want to make my own fursuit too! But I've never sewn before in my life so I'm really nervous. ^^;; We'll see what happens... >.>;
I really was having fun. I swear there is NO turning back now! :3

Honestly I was obnoxiously nervous about starting. The key is literally just jumping right into it head first sorta-speak.
"and even though I thought it turned out a lil crummy"
Don't kid yourself, that fursuit looked amazing. Great work! :-3
Faux fur isn't that expensive.........Just order it from the states. It's about $21-$25 per Yard. I just ordered myself 7 yards of fur plus shipping for $195 canadian.
I do believe there is a thread already filled with fur resources.......
But there is www.distinctivefabrics.com (http://www.distinctivefabric.com/) (ships only to the USA) www.syfabrics.com (http://www.syfabrics.com) www.mendels.com (http://www.mendels.com) and www.fabric.com (http://www.fabric.com)
They all have really good prices for really good fur.(If you google it these are the sites many pro fursuit makers use)
Fabricana In Coquitlam sells it as cheap as $13 a meter but the average is $15-20 there.
nice suit, looks comfy! Dresssew on Hastings usually has good prices.
