: Massive Landslides happening in the Kootenays
: Kirkus July 13, 2012, 09:23:47 -06:00
If you haven't caught the news recently, directly across Kootenay lake from my hometown in a very small residence called Johnsons Landing there's been some incredible landslides that have given way- one yesterday morning and another that happened about 4 hours ago:

First slide yesterday morning:

Second slide earlier today (providing far more detail):

At this point there's four people missing, including a great friend of mine who came up for the week from California. The whole village is covered with Search & Rescue and Global TV crew as this foundation doesn't seem to want to sit. Thoughts go out to those still missing, but as time goes on it's just not looking good.

Holy cow two Kootenay furs! I am Soooooo gonna add you folks as friends.

Yeah in the end the news could've been much better- the four turned out to be killed in the slide. Two of them were found in the slide, but one of the daughters as well as a German resident were never found. The Search and Rescue's full team pulled out a couple days ago and our local branch is going through the slide part-time to see if they have any more luck.

RIP Diana, her sister, her father, and Petra.
