Well, only because GTA went serious after San Andreas, which took most of the fun out of it when they tried to give it more plot than humor.
Saint's Row basically became the true successor to the franchise :/
Rockstar's had better success with other games since GTA4, so I don't think they'll see it as such a big deal if they can continue to make games as good as LA Noire.
Mrrr, that trailer looks to me like a mix between GTA and Just Cause 2.
I take it you've never played Wheelman, released in 2009.
Sleeping dogs looks cool. It seems like a criminal perspective of a True Crime: Streets of LA game.
Woot woot a game made by locals! :D
Sleeping Dogs does look promising, and yes, could be some competition with GTA. However, you can't kill GTA, the franchise is way too big with too large of a fanbase. That said, I'm looking forward to playing Sleeping Dogs when I can get it (and find time too!). It's still on pre-sale via steam for $45, which is good for a launch price!

There are a LOT of local game studios. Like, tons. Locally made games are everywhere.
Sorry, kind of necroing here.

I still
like GTA4, but I agree that it's trying too hard to be serious now. I mean, they even took out the Riot Mode cheat, which was absolute barrels of fun.
Man, I should install San Andreas again...
