How route-finding software can fail in ways obvious to humans. Google Maps Fail (http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=49.249543,-122.892895&daddr=North+Rd&hl=en&geocode=%3BFRJq7wIdjM6s-A&mra=dme&mrcr=0&mrsp=0&sz=15&sll=49.244612,-122.895126&sspn=0.013756,0.038624&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=15)

Here's one that's actually kinda cool. The Google Street View car seems to have gone past the Bellfurs house while they were having a furmeet: http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&q=13918+SE+23rd+St,+Bellevue,+WA+98005,+USA&source=embed&ll=47.589928,-122.154193&spn=0.012706,0.028539&t=h&z=15&layer=c&cbll=47.590021,-122.154193&panoid=JuBMv5o5LdtKG-0FjX2T7A&cbp=12,78.73,,0,3.36 (http://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&q=13918+SE+23rd+St,+Bellevue,+WA+98005,+USA&source=embed&ll=47.589928,-122.154193&spn=0.012706,0.028539&t=h&z=15&layer=c&cbll=47.590021,-122.154193&panoid=JuBMv5o5LdtKG-0FjX2T7A&cbp=12,78.73,,0,3.36)

Here's a sad series of images.
The google mobile smokes a baby deer.  You can (could) scroll frame by frame as it tumbled through the air:

http://gizmodo.com/5141974/google-maps-car-hits-a-deer-records-entire-ordeal-on-google-maps (http://gizmodo.com/5141974/google-maps-car-hits-a-deer-records-entire-ordeal-on-google-maps)

But they blurred everything out on the live maps.

If it makes you sad you can scroll backwards and the googlemobile is bringing the baby deer back to life!

Actually this maps fail sadly isn't just something native to google maps, I have a GPS in my car that does some stupid routes, half the time it trys to take the highway as ar as it can to a rural place meaning it would actually take longer than having to go trough longer back roads after... or it trys to take you off of a highway/ parkway to make you go through crappy city traffic to get to a destination.

Route finding doesn't seem to be a strong point in current GPS and mapping technology.

This seems common to a lot of online mapping programs.

Kayak across the Pacific?  At least it appears they've done away with the  "swim across the Atlantic" instructions.  Seeing as you need your car at both ends, do they expect you to CARRY it while swimming?!?
