BC Furries

I'd like to get a feel for what sub boards, if any, readers would like to see things divided into. The exact names of the new boards, and their boundaries can be discussed. You can vote for as many of the options as you like.

"What furry means to me" caught my attention, not as a forum, but rather as a sticky of some sort. There are all sorts of people who have trouble finding common grounds when starting out with the community, and that could help. Not to say there are not a lot of people explaining in their profiles and so.

For now I chose "debate", can separate heated debate/strong opinion from the general forum if people are not in to that much  :-3

As good as they all sound, I personally choose the regional chatter, as I have read a few posts about the problem some people have trying to talk to or find people in their region.

The idea of giving Fraser Valley it's own place might help the "Rest of BC" section as well, as I'm sure the amount of people in the Fraser Valley can sustain it's own section.

I personally think we should be keeping RP boards off BCFurries. (We already have some issues with topics getting out of hand that are searchable and could leave bad impressions.)
I could only imagine some of the things people would RP. I definitely think people should go elsewhere for RPing. (i know this is a PG13 board, but i'm sure some would still try to get past that. -shrugs-. I've been a mod on a few PG13 RP boards and everyone's idea of PG13 is different, even if you put up a standard for people to look at.)

A Web comic section pertains to me and would be good, but i dont know how many others will participate in it other then advertizing for comics (which is totaly fine! :3 )

A specified debate section would be pretty cool. With some rules and then let mature people have at it. I definitely do like reading a good debate~ :3 (not much of a debater myself but i think the section could be well used here.)

Jobs Offered would be pretty good! Makes it more specific for those who are looking for opportunities to find something (like the post about the PNE work yesterday)

Fursuit performing could still be under art. Not sure if it really needs its own section but if it does, sure! Doing anything in a suit (performing/dancing/etc) is DEFINITELY an art and a huge skill XD

Fursuit performing can be put under the Sewing board right now.

For any of these, yes people can discuss them in the General Board right now. The question is, is there support for separating these things to their own area?

I completely agree with keeping RP section off of the boards. Temrin has outlined some very good reasons as to why we probably should not have one

Other then that I have no strong opinions about the other sections. Regional chatter might be a good thing for the areas other then the lower mainland. Mostly I'm just extremely against an RP section..

I've created the regional Chat boards, may end up organizing them differently but they are there now. The poll is still open; if there is a clear preference for another new board, it will be created.

I see where you are going with regional boards, but were they really necessary?  Maybe for the lower mainland since you guys are posting new threads every week, but the island section doesn't get much use as it is, so now it feels a bit too thinly spread when really it was fine as is before hand since it was a "one stop shop" for all things furry on the island. On a similar note, I agree with TigerKindered on "what furry means to me" I think a section like that is actual pretty useful and could be a interesting addition, but on the flip side, is that not what the General board is meant to encompass?

The regional chat boards were by far the top choice in the poll, so I've got to at least give them a chance. If it turns out they don't work, I can always merge them back into their original postions.

Like several of these topics, yes, you can talk about them on the General Board right now, but I hope people will look at the General Board, and think about what topics should get their own board.

Well, I say give the regional section some time. I believe it has potential to help expand numbers outside of Vancouver, as I think it will feel more BC centric and less Vancouver centric by allowing other regions to have their space to talk about their area, and not have it bumped out by something in Vancouver.

A jobs offered/wantrd forum would be awesome. >.< we could post adds for job offers
Or even show some neat job openings in the area that may help someone on th forum.

If I understand correctly, I think it's in reference to the regional boards, there is the potential drawback of having too many options for too little userbase.

Jobs offered / wanted also showed a clear interest. Added, and we can discuss a catchy blurb and some guidelines.

Should "jobs offered / wanted" be visible to accounts not logged in? That could effect whether search engines index it. I can see arguments both ways.

So I was thinking after making a post, what if there was a forum for peoples locations in general? Although I do know there are some problems with that...

What if there was a forum where people could post where they live? I don't completely know how it would be made/split-up but if there was a forum to put posts like the ones in Lower Mainland Chat - SFU Furs, Tri-cities furs, BCIT furs...
Though I think there needs to be more thought put into it first, which I guess I'll think about it for a bit

If you do a search for your area you will come up with lots of post. There are a few threads about BCIT people and other schools as well as other areas.
Even if you look in for example in this post (http://www.bcfurries.com/forum/index.php?topic=3317.0) you will find out more about were people are located. All you need to do is a bit of poking around and using the search feature.

I enjoy the regional chatter forums to have things in, if it was added in because of this. When I look around it though, this sticks out:

"Lower Mainland Events:
Local events in Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, Surrey, and Langley"

I suppose the area you are really trying to include is Metro Vancouver/Lower Fraser Valley (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lower_Mainland#Regional_districts), Eh?

This includes municipalities and cities that are easily accessible (Anmore, White Rock, Richmond, Delta, Haney, ...) that would fit and have been in this forum. Not sure it would really change anything if included, just would look nice to me if I lived in one of the unmentioned places.

With the increase in the number of active minors on the forum I think its important that we have a subforum for 19+ topics.

how about an easy access LOST AND FOUND.  that way anyone that lost something can look there and if someone found something then they can post it there quickly. 

something else i thought of is to remove one's pic from the top of every page.  i think it is only necessary on the profile page so the member can see what pic the others see. 

I created a Lost and Found board. It's a trial to see how useful people find it.

Perhaps there won't be much interest for this here, but what about a literature section under the media boards? I don't know that it would be all that busy, but it would seem...a little more balanced, to me. ^^

I can see your point, but would it get traffic or would it be a dead zone? People can still talk about it on the General board. Can you point to some threads on the General board that would get moved over? If you're talking about literature that you created, there's the Writers board.

Exactly why I bring it up with hesitation, Rat. I'm not sure how well it would do or how much it would get used. ^^ I though I'd bring it up and see how many people jumped on it, but you're probably right: best to keep the two or three threads that -might- live for a while in general.

A geocaching tread? I geocache alot with friends. But I can't seem to find one here. It's really fun. I love it.

Feel free to start a new thread. Depending on the angle you are going for, you could post it in "help and advice", "general board", or a regional board.

I really wouldn't mind seeing custom profile backgrounds and textures like myspace

not so  much a forum topic but i would like to see my buddies list in alphabetical order.

I think "What furry means to me (incl. Spirituality)" is a good option, as there are already several threads similar to this in the General section and, I believe, in Help and Advice.  People can discuss their own personal fursonas, their take on being a furry, and any possibly spiritual beliefs to help clarify their own views on what being a furry means to them.  I think it's actually very important for most beginning furries to be able to talk about this freely, as I know it was a particularly tough trial for myself, at a young age.

I would support the "what furry means to me" but just so long as people can actually handle things of a deeper nature.. Its a great topic to get on as it can get real personal and quite interesting, but people really gotta think before they post on something like that, as long as there is some big heads up sticky/ read me on etiquette or the like, hopefully that would help.

In terms of the event board, Rainrat, I'd suggest a more YVR-ish approach to categorizing the "where" of the events.

Since most of the Rest of World Events lies in the US or Canada, it's best to change the name of that board into "US Events" / "Rest of Canada Events", and recategorize the non-US events into a "Rest of World Events" board in itself.

not sure where this goes but i have a request.  is it not possible when replying to someones email to you (the member) to have the whole conversation available to be read like a yahoo or gmail email has all the letters send and received?  as it is i can send someone a message but if i forget to click on the 'save to outbox" option i lose all comments and a month later when they reply, i have no idea what they are replying about.\, unless they manage to mention what the first email said.  make it automatic so one doesn't have to go searching their past comment to try and find out that what they are replying to was just a happy birthday greeting or maybe more.

regarding any comments / discussion about any illegal substance, whether you have a dr note to use or not, it is still illegal, under the laws of the country, so i propose that these subjects not be permitted to be discussed.  this will prevent any misunderstandings as to the intent of the writer.  since the written word cannot translate the vocal tone and intention of the writer, it might be better to just avoid the whole subject altogether.

i have been trying to find a thread someone started and i saw it a couple of days ago but last night i could not find it.  when one does a search of the authors name there is no connection to the threads they have made.  even if i search for the threads i made myself, i can't find them all.  only the threads that have a key word in them show up and none of them were the ones i wanted.

on the list of buddies, could it be possible to have the list in alphabetical order?  makes it easier to find who is a buddy or not.

when someone makes a comment in a thread why is the avatar so large?  it takes up so much space that is unnecessary to use.  the avatar only needs to be the size of a thumbnail.  if i want to know more about that furson all i need to do is click the avatar and be taken to the furson's profile.  so many comments are just one line such as ... welcome to the forums .... so the info on the left could be smaller.

Probably going to delete the "lost and found" board as it hardly gets any traffic. The current threads, or any future posts can go in the regional chat, or the thread for the related event.

Would it be possible to get the Howloween sub forum organized into yearly folders like how VF's sub forum is?
Would make it easier when needing to post about a certain year. Much more organized and less cluttered ^_^

A rating system like garrysmod's facepunvh forum.

not so much a topic but a request ....  is it possible to limit the size of pictures that get uploaded so that they are not so big as to require a jumbotron to view them?  and on the reverse ,,,, if a pic is not of a minimum size then it will automatically become a certain size for easier viewing.

Well if there's going to be lots of discussion for it, it's not a bad idea. Rideshare, room(tent)share posts, etc. It might save congestion in the main events forum for it to have it's own little section, like the dinnermeets, fursuit bowling, and Howloween do.

There's an Artists, Sewing, and Writing forum, but where are us Crafters supposed to go? D: Would be nice to have a forum for us who work with other materials (Metal, Wood, Plastic, Latex, Clay, Leather, Foam, Marble/Stone, Etc.) :3

I'd like to ask for a child board for the now yearly event on Vancouver Island, SURFUR. I spoke with Rainrat about this briefly a while back, though I was looking for a place to make a proper request, and I seemed to have missed this thread while searching.

Anyways, I've been running events like these since 2009, and we are really trying to get an annual event going here. Every event, our numbers have increased, but this year we are going for real growth, and we are looking into every option. Social media, advertising, though we think we can make the biggest difference in numbers here on BC Furs.

A child board would not only show that this isn't just another furmeet, but an annual event we wish to share with the rest of BC, and to any who would join us. It would also allow us the ability to have all relevant chat, prep, idea/brainstorming, ride shares and event threads all in one easy to navigate location.
