: Whats the meaning of your name?
: Mikomi June 11, 2009, 09:30:38 -06:00
So i was thinking about this,
why did you pick your name?
And i mean your fur name btw.
Does it mean anything?
Where did it come from?
Did anyone help you pic it?
Ect.. ect..
So basically i think it would be interesting to know the origins of each others names.

So ill start of then ^^
My name is Mikomi,
It means Hope in Japanese.
Cause i always seem to find the silver lining in a situation, and i tend to be full of hope and all that jazz.
My ex and i picked it out from a few names, different languages and meanings.
We picked this one cause it seemed to suit me.

My parents never allowed me to watch the Felix the Cat cartoons.  Figure that one out.

McKline is one of the last names that the scottish side of my family had long long ago.  I had McKline and McGreggor to choose from, and the bulley that was on my case all the way from grade 2 to grade 11 was named Greg.  So, no McGreggor for me... just McKline.

McKline is actually a derivitive of McClean, if you wish to do your research.  The family crest has three words on it: Honour, Virtue, and Mine (Posession).

: EpicurYeen June 12, 2009, 07:42:27 -06:00
I have three fursonae that originated as characters on Yiffstar's defunct MUCK, starting with Yotie (the name by which I am most commonly known in the BC furry groups). When I got to Yiffstar, I was still identifying myself as mothx3, which is one of my two Therian aspects. The MUCK was geared toward sexual encounters, and I didn't feel comfortable RolePlaying as an insect, so I chose the coyote because I thought its night time behaviours were similar enough to moths that I could take it on. Originally, my name was coyoteboy, but one of my first encounters suggested that name was too long and impersonal, so he called me Yotie - this was in March, 2006.

Atnarko has a whole lot of background that I'll spare your eyes from reading, but he's a leaf-nosed bat, and I named him after a river that I have camped beside as a kid, in Tweedsmuir Provincial Park (500+ km west of Williams Lake). This is the name that I go by on Second Life & Fur Affinity. I have been frequently called Atty, or Atnar.

Lycaon is my third character, an African wild dog, whose name is the canine's genus, and also has some links to Greek mythology. [Son of Pelasgus. Lycaon was a king of primitive Arcadia who presided over barbarous cannibalistic practises. He was transformed into a wolf by Zeus, angered by human sacrifice. His sons offered Zeus, disguised as a traveller, a banquet containing human remains; they were also changed into wolves.] So if you catch me trying to eat someone... beware.

Some pre-furry friends still call me moth, and I have been called mothboy, and mothy.
: Re: Whats the meaning of your name?
: Tony Greyfox June 12, 2009, 09:23:12 -06:00
My fursona/main character's full name is Anton, and I borrowed it from a character in Steve Gallacci's 'Birthright' comic, right around where I figured that the grey fox/kitsune was what fit me the best. I shortened it to Tony for less formality. (Full name is Anton K'Therin; in the context of my backstory, the middle name is a patronymic that is short for 'kit of' - Therin is the character's father.)

My other characters: Dhani, a panthress, was a word I lifted from Swahili, I believe (she started out in a Lion King-based RP), and I had no idea that George Harrison's kid was named the same. (I also use Dhani as my character name on SL, though she's a skunk, and a he, there... ... I just confused myself.) Keileigh, a ferret, is a variant on Kylie, just because I thought it sounded cool. Tamiko's a bear I play very infrequently who was also a main character in my one published story... her name came from a song by Hemingway Corner that reflected her bittersweet personality and background.

I have too many characters. =P

: Temrin June 15, 2009, 01:47:42 -06:00
Hmm well i have too many characters. Most are from the Anthropomorphic post-by-post RPG www.ramath-lehi.com (http://www.ramath-lehi.com)

Temrin is the name i go by now, and have gone by for quite a few years now. The character behind the name is originally from said RP site. They have their own language on the site and a translator you can use. I dont even remember what i originaly put into the translator but i liked the layout of the word that came out, but it didnt sound right, so i changed a few letters to come up with Temrin. Full name is Temrin Sanjem. Sanjem it Temrin put back into the translator.

And since then even people i've known in real life have even called me Temrin. Or well, Tem or Temmy because they know the character would kill them if she was ever called that and of course i cant do much about it but ignore them or hit them XD

Well for the longest time my favorite element of the four was and still is Fire. Japanese is also my favorite foreign language so translating Fire would be "Hi"...not much of a name so I looked for other words that would work and so I found and chose Flame. Translating that, it would be "Kaji" and that is how I got my name.

Marzipan is a confection consisting primarily of sugar and almond meal.

It derives its characteristic flavor from bitter almonds, which constitute 4% to 6% of the total almond content by weight[citation needed]. Some marzipan is also flavored with rosewater. Persipan is a similar, but cheaper product, for which the almonds are replaced by apricot or peach kernels.

It is often made into sweets: common uses are marzipan-filled chocolate and small marzipan imitations of fruits and vegetables. It is also rolled into thin sheets and glazed for icing cakes and is traditionally used in wedding cakes, Christmas cakes, and stollen. In some countries marzipan is shaped into small figures of animals as a traditional treat for New Year's Day. Marzipan is also used in Tortell, and in some versions of king cake eaten during the Carnival season.

In Italy, particularly in Palermo, marzipan (marzapane) is often shaped and painted with food colorings to resemble fruit — Frutta martorana — especially during the Christmas season. May 9 and 10 are also special days for eating marzipan in Sicily.[1] In Portugal, where the confection has been made by nuns since olden times[vague],[2] traditional marzipan (maçapão) fruit shaped sweets made in the Algarve region are called morgadinhos. There are other regions, as Toledo in Spain in which marzipan is shaped into simple animal shapes, and usually filled in with egg yolk (yema) and sugar. In Latin American cuisine, marzipan is known as mazapán and is also traditionally eaten at Christmas, though "Mazapan" is generally made with peanuts in place of almonds. In the Netherlands Marzipan figures are given as presents to children during Saint Nicholas' Eve. In Germany it is common to give marzipan in the shape of a pig as new year presents, known as a "Glückschwein" (lucky pig).

In the Middle-East, marzipan (known as lozina, which is derived from the word لوز lawz, the Arabic word for almonds) is flavored with orange-flower water and shaped into roses and other delicate flowers before they are baked. Marzipan can also be made from oatmeal, farina, or semolina.

I choose it after having the nickname 'mouse' but having pet gerbils and identifying with them strongly I decided I need a name for a gerbil fursona and happened by a bakery cafe on davie street with marzipan shaped into animals including a mouse ..the lightbulb went off in my head!

I changed the form of the word to be more symbolic of me and thus it's mArZiPaN!

And now you know(and knowing is half the battle)

: Elnath June 21, 2009, 05:12:54 -06:00
My sister is something of a space cadet astronomy nut. She always named characters in her stories, video games and screen names after stars.

Me, wanting to be like my big sister, followed suit.
I told her I needed a name for a minotaur, she gave me Elnath, which is the name of the star that represents the horn in the Taurus constellation.
I think it translates to 'The butting horn'

Despite my other nickname, Moonrabbit. My only primary furry forms are bull related.

It stuck and I love it... even though he is gone out of my life.

I don't really know where either part of my name came from.
I think that Laowin came from a modified entry from a random fantasy name generator.
Heavily modified, I think.
Aldase (more like "all days" than "all da say")
Was straight up from that same generator. Names have never been my forte.

Despite my name being Ryan.. that's totally not why I chose the name Orion...

When I lived in Revelstoke certain constellations were readily visible right above my house, and the night sky was beautiful. I chose the name Orion the Hunter on an MMO I played way back in the day... and then carried it on into the furry fandom.

I had chosen the name Merrick Maverick for an alias many-a-year ago, but never really knew the meaning. I just looked it up and Merrick means Fame Rule. I assume it means fame rules over my actions and emotions, which is true because I act like I have an ego bigger then a blimp. When really it's only the size of a 2 story house.

Maverick for a surname I have known that it means something along the lines of "operson who takes chances, departs from accepted course." I have been known to try some VERY stupid risks and make it out completely fine.

I guess the whole meaning means: Fame rules over the radical. I take chances for the fame  receive from them I guess.

Drake Wingfire.. hmmm

A name that has no particular meaning, I came up with the name for myself back when I was.. what 14? if I recall
at that time I was really lacking any sorta creative skills so really I kinda went on my looks as inspiration for a name.

Drake; that first name just came to me as a very subtle and nice name all be it sorta generic in the world of dragons XD  Drake = Bob when compared to human names pretty much XD (no offense to any other drakes here ^.=.^; )

Wingfire; .. look at my dragon self, I don't think I need to explain XD though the dragon last name is something I had from the beginning as well as I knew I wouldn't be the only Drake to roam the world, its usually why I always call myself/ have the user name "Drake Wingfire" everywhere, so people know who I am XD

: CatNamedOwl August 04, 2009, 01:36:17 -06:00
The first time I went into an IRC furry chatroom, I did so with the name OwlCity, seeing as it's my favourite band. Everyone called me Owl, and the name caught on.

But there was a problem. Everyone thought I WAS an owl, and after multiple explanations, I decided it was time for a name change, not to mention I didn't even have my species down! (I was new to the furry fandom at the time)

So I did some research, decided I was best fit for a cat, and the rest is history.

Fun Fact: My fursona sort of evolved from the name itself, I am a cat that has an identity crisis, often acting like an owl, trying to fly at times! It's quite cute, hoo...

: HexV August 05, 2009, 05:15:06 -06:00
There's nothing really special about my name... just a little bit of history, really.

HexV is a shortened down version of Hex_Vain, which was a handle I used online a long time ago. Eventually I just started to dislike the appearance of Hex_Vain and tried to alter it, using HexV2000, Hexean, Hex, and the current flavour HexV.

Unfortunately, that's as interesting as it gets for me. No real sentimental meaning or anything behind it, just an online handle that stuck to me like glue.

: tokar December 26, 2012, 05:38:28 -07:00
for me there are two stories.  one the truth and one for other people.

first the other peoples version.  i used to driver a tow truck and visited a friend who's son was learning to talk.  when he saw a truck he would say what it did such as dump twuck, buth, fire twuck, and a tow truck was "tow car" for what it did.  when i went to visit one day his son saw the tow truck and yelled out - "tow car , tow car" so when my friend opened the door he said welcome tow car which i changed to tokar which is an actual scottish name and i have scottish roots.

now the truth.  i used to drive a tow truck and i toke so i amalgamated the two - tow car and toker - and came up with tokar.  please note it is spelled in lower case.

They have 9 demons in total and the second (two tailed) one was called "Nibi No Nekomata". I loved cats and Naruto, so I made it my username. Later I just shortened it to "Nibi No Neko" because it was annoying to type all of the time. :-3 Now I have shortened it to Nibi, which can have an entirely different meaning, but it's grown on me too much to change it.
