: British Furs Visiting Vancouver
: lupestripe February 15, 2012, 12:56:50 -07:00
Hello BC furs

My mate and I will be going to Rainfurrest in September and were thinking of flying in and out of Vancouver, particularly as neither of us have visited Canada before. Is there much to do in the city? If anyone would be interested in showing us around - or could offer any good recommendations for food, hotels and sights - it would be great :)

Well...there are many places that you could go in Vancouver, and Stanley Park is one of them. Oh, and UBC, 'cause it's a natural treasure of sorts surrounding it, not to mention that UBC's a pretty awesome place to get around in.  :-3

Hooray! Thanks for your replies. UBC certainly looks interesting, we'll try and check that out. I imagine we'll be in Vancouver for a few days before Rainfurrest and then for some of the week after too. It would be great to check out the sights, and some of the famous BC countryside too ^^

I live in Victoria (Just a two-hour ferry ride away from Vancouver), and I make occasional trips to the mainland. One of the main things I can show is the excellent public transit service provided by TransLink in Metro Vancouver. If you decide to go over to the Island, there's a lot of fun things to do, situated in Victoria.

www.translink.ca (http://www.translink.ca) (Vancouver)
www.bctransit.com/regions/vic (http://www.bctransit.com/regions/vic) (Victoria)

There's far too much for me to list - but I think you'll have fun!

Yes come! We will show you how to catch salmon with your bare paws and fight off a grizzly bear! OK well, maybe not... but we can show you around town!

FriendlyFox raises a good point. Check Google Maps. Google Maps has Translink routes on it to help you get around from one place to another within the lower mainland.

And since both of you are tourists in the true north strong and free, I have two words for you.

Oh, and the Canucks. Support the Canucks. xP

If there's a green light ahead, then I'd recommend the creation of an Events board of sorts for this.  :D

Might I suggest Grouse Mountain in North Vancouver.  Not only will it give you the best views of the city, but it has Bears and Wolves too.

Downtown, Robson Street has all of the top shopping and dining opportunities.  And during our Olympics, it was the place to find furries.

Thanks for your excellent suggestions on things to do, and for your offers of meeting up. Nothing is fully confirmed yet but I imagine we will be flying into Vancouver on/around Saturday 22 September and leaving two weeks later, probably Sunday 7 October. It would be great to meet up with some of you before or after Rainfurrest.

I would love to go to a Canucks game but I fear we will just miss the start of the regular season, which I believe is early October. It's a bit of a shame but perhaps there is a practice game on we could go and see. When I was in Russia last year, I went to see a KHL game and thought the atmosphere and play was fantastic.

Grouse Mountain sounds excellent, it would certainly be great to experience a little of the famous Canadian countryside. And I like salmon. Yey for salmon ^^

*If people would like to chat with me on IM, by all means send me a private message and I'll give you my details :)

The NHL season starts around the 5th or 6th of Oct, but there is pre-season! That is 2ish weeks before the regular season start. Warning, Canucks tickets are expensive!

Vancouver also has an acquarium, Science World, a planatarium and a few other little tourist traps if you want to visit. A walk along the seawall might also be a nice foray if the weather is good.

Excellent, welcome to Vancouver when you arrive, as you can see many things to do and see here. Also a lot of furs that might be willing to show you around town. Just drop us a line when you arrive and I am sure there will be someone willing to meet that day if your up to it after the long flight. If you're coming for rainfurrest I am sure you will enjoy it, a great convention in the relatively local area a few hours drive.

I hope you have enough time to also explore other parts of British Columbia, Whistler, Grouse mountain maybe even try your luck at gold panning in the Interior.

I think it would be great to see a Canucks game if possible, I write and read a lot about them so it's something which would be great to do.

All of your other suggestions have been noted - I'll try and devise an itinery nearer the time. It certainly would be great to meet up with some of you when we are over in Vancouver.

You can add me on FA, LJ or twitter if you like (all lupestripe). NitroShep - I have already added you on FA ^^
