: Mindless wandering of the streets - Maybe in Vancouver next.
: WildEye January 03, 2012, 04:13:17 -07:00
When small (lonely :() walks around a too familiar Coquitlam get old, I sometimes wander for hours down to somewhere. I usually go from Burnaby (Lougheed Station) to Rocky Point Park in 'Moody which is a good walk.

My next destination is Downtown Van. when the weather clears a little. I'd love to explore Gastown on foot for hours. I think it'll be just the maturing experience I'll need to explore myself! And no more excuse for not knowing the city like the back of my hand.

A shame I do not know many people, long ago a friend would go for hours wandering the streets with me talking.  :-\

Has anyone done something similar?

You are always welcome at the 'Giz-House' ... East van is not far - and convenient!

I've done a long walk once or twice with friends.  Not as often as I'd like.  I know sometimes I just wish I could get out and explore Vancouver more at night as it's beautiful.

Did this once with a bc-fur last spring. He gave me a little informal tour of the city. I don't think he got much out of it, but I really enjoyed myself.  :)

Until I became a member of this social group I had no need to leave my own little suburban bubble. However it seems the majority of you guys live in the city, so to meet people I've had to do a fair bit of commuting. Vancouver has changed so much this past year to me... much of what I can remember of it from my youth has been positively mutated. It's like seeing it for the first time again every trip I take.

I'd love to go for a day-long scenic tour with you guys!  :gay:

Sounds interesting. I used to explore the night all the time when I was younger. I guess listening to music can't keep you company all the time so I just ended up losing interest. Did a walk from Downtown to Buranby one night, must've taken a few hour and time went by so fast when you're in good company. I would mind familiarizing myself with downtown, send me a message if you plan on going and I'll see if my schedule is free.

Might take you up on that offer, I know vancouver very well love to walk also. I walk all day at work, but that is more of a rush around walk, a nice casual walk would work well. I also know some places in town for real cheap meals, found them when I had lost everything for awhile. Lynne valley is a nice place for a walk also, few other places to see, but they cost money some of them, Capilano suspension bridge, grouse mountain, victoria park and the conservatory. Spirit park at UBC is nice and free, just to name a few.

This sounds like a great idea, but only if it's weather permitting, which in a sense is a "goes-without-saying" sorta thing.

I took a walk down the restaurant stretch of Main Street once, and in a sense, that's recommendable for wandering.

It is such a relief that I do not have to stalk random bars to find people to talk with  :o (I do not look old enough to be a lonely stranger at one).

After so many years alone I am awful at meeting people I do not know well. I know that if I get to know you guys around here I will be more comfortable, along with my goal to get fit as of late I will really appreciate to speak with you guys out there soon :-3

I keep thinking to get a job and move out before I make any sort of friends (I'd feel more matured), I need to get over this and just do it. It'll be a lot better than how I think it'll go.

I lived out of a backpack for a while and wandered most of North America on foot. A maturing experience for sure :p

Just be careful around gas town pup, it's dangerous around lots of that part. If you want to meet a slightly rougher but safe crowd, check out the Cambie.

It's a bar at the foot of a hostel. Beer is cheap, lots of travelers pass through.

Regarding Coal's idea about Capilano Bridge, it might be a good idea, but I guess I was viewing this topic from a budget perspective - only spending $ on Skytrain and bus tixes.

Which reminds me, there was a time in which walking about the Capilano Bridge was free...  :'(
