: Urban Exploration
: Riot Da Woof! December 13, 2011, 05:42:33 -07:00
Well, it's been quite a while since I've been on this forum! However, I've been introduced to something due to a couple of incredibly generous Australian furs.

Urbex'ing.

Im interested to know if there are any furs in our ever expanding community who partake in such activites as I'll certainly be picking up the hobby once I've returned home from overseas!

As for those who just MAY be interested in what this activity is all about:

I would totally be up for that man sounds like it could be fun and a little bit of a workout definitely sounds like a way to have a adventure  :-3

This reminds me, I have yet to visit the usually off-limits parts of the fabled UBC steam tunnels. So near, yet so far.

I love being a touristy "urbexer", though my time budget is pretty strung in and out of itself.

Glad your interested Icey! Hopefully We'll be able to do a little bit of exploration sometime in the near future! it can be quite a substantial workout depending on where we decide to go. ^..^

Tef, well, if you can manage a couple hours of a day I'd be more then keen do catch up and try with you!
(granted, it may be a while before I'll be back in Vancouver... about ten months to be frank!)

Yeah, I'm a fan of this and have done this in the past. There is a LOT of cool abandoned buildings out there. Moreso out east than here, but it's still fun to poke around at stuff.

Just remember that when you are doing this that you are almost certainly breaking the law. Don't look shady when you do it, and follow the old advice of only breaking ONE law at a time. If you get busted trespassing and you have pot on you it's very different for example.

Carry a camera (helps you look like a tourist instead of a hobo) and wear proper travel clothes. Don't be unsaved/unwashed/in shady clothing.

Oh, don't worry, it's only during the last two months of the term. I'll be more freer during weekends in the months of January and February.

I did all of it while I was on the road. When you change cities every couple of days, pretty much all minor laws don't apply to you anymore.

Josh (Sokii) and I have somewhat agreed to try and get into this when he's back from Australia and I think it'd be great to have someone with your experience accompany us.  I'm pretty excited about it and I'm totally up for learning new stuff!

In that case, I'm gonna find ways to get myself a new camera as an option. xP

: Riot Da Woof! December 21, 2011, 06:47:57 -07:00
Honestly didn't expect so many people to be on board!

but please, PLEASE listen to the following!

This is for all intents and purposes trespassing. Urbexing is not something to be taken lightly
Research is needed, information needs to be gathered.
someone will probably need to know how to pick locks.
the group may have to be able to jump fences; is everyone capable of doing that?
think of pre-designated bug-out points.
What if someone gets hurt, does everyone know how to deal with anything from a rusty metal scrape to a possible broken bone?

You also need to think of your company you keep.
do you trust the person next to you will keep there cool should unwanted company be close?
Realize that going in groups of  more then two-to-four great increase the risk of being caught or mistakes being made.

YOU must be able to judge your own skill.

you need to realize that things go pear-shaped. You must be able to cope with the fact that what your doing has consequences should you get caught.

Now after I've finished probably scarring half of you off, if your STILL intrested I'll do a bit of reading and get in touch of some local urbex'ers and get some information :3

Sure, I'm still up for it. I'm not sure if any you really want me tagging along given that I've never done this before, but I still really want to do it! I can follow orders. I'll keep my mouth shut. >w<

This sounds like fun.

I've always had an itch to explore like this, urban or not - however, I'm more the type to do this alone or in a small,  capable group...Soki's list of precautions to take is roughly the same as what I had in mind, and I really don't consider myself prepared.
