"A former member of an Allegheny County state legislator's staff allegedly had computer chats with a teenage boy about dressing in animal costumes and having sex, Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett said."
"Investigators from Corbett's office found a wolf and cat-type costume in Berlin's home, a spokesman said."

Hey guys, he's single too, if you're looking.

Awesome, just what the furry (fursuiting especially) community needed.
At the very least, they acknowledge the difference between furries and pedophilia here: http://www.lehighvalleylive.com/newsflash/index.ssf?/base/national-7/1243631426116880.xml&storylist=penn (http://www.lehighvalleylive.com/newsflash/index.ssf?/base/national-7/1243631426116880.xml&storylist=penn)
"It's one thing to be interested in the furry culture, it's another thing to make arrangements to have sex with a teenage boy," Frederiksen said. "This is not online fantasy or anything like that. This is real solicitation to have sexual contact with a boy and you can't do that."
This story made me laugh. Its just ironic what he does for a job and now he happens to be on the receiving end. And tbh who really cares if there is good or bad news about furries. You can't really change a persons mind. 90% of people have a set mindset. While the remainder are open to new ideas. Or willing to change how they see something with doing research into it if they are interested. So I don't see why these stories are such a big deal with some. While I find them great for the lulz xD
You can't change a person's mind, but if this article is all a person knows about furries, then yes, they will not view furries in a positive light.
And I'm sure it matters to fursuiters who want to do outdoor events without getting their asses kicked.

Yeah, this is going to be fuel for the haters. I'm glad the people in the articles are separating his actions from the furry community as a whole, but still, the folks who criticize the fandom won't pay much attention to that. =/
Plus, this being in PA, one wonders whether the media will take a new look at Anthrocon - a furry being busted for this six weeks before the fandom's major convention, in the same state, could cause a few waves. (Thinking with my reporter cap on here, I could be out to lunch... but the US media loves itself some sensationalism.)
And the really sad fact is, is that now we'll have to work 20 (absolute minimum) times as hard to regain the reputation that's been lost as a result. It's so easy to post negative stuff about the furry fandom and get people to believe it too. It's so much harder to get the positive stuff about the fandom posted.

It pleased me to see that the A-G's office was making that effort, yeah. I think they want to a) not piss off furries, given the large convention in the area and b) make sure people aren't going out and beating up people in suits.
Gah >.< this is pretty bad... but its not as bad as it could be i guess, and like it has been said, they put a dividing line between the fandom and pedophilia ....
I am really curious about the kid himself tbh.His identity hasn't been revealed yet as far as I know. But just think about it. When you read the article the PARENTS FOUND OUT the whole "sexual"conversation between the two. And the kid is 15....... like how desperate was the kid to get laid he would just hand himself over to older people? If anything the kid should be counseled to realize he should try finding people to have sex with if they are within a 1-5 year range of his age >.>
In B4 controversy.
Thats actually a very good point Wula, Granted everyone gets lonely... but really... thats a bit much dont ya think?
"* I've got a good job where I am well respected and I have been employed for over 17 years"
;D
:police:
I'd be interested in knowing the whole story, but I doubt the media will be interested in telling us anything but PEDO PEDO PEDO OMG.
Ah, this is another good point Silvermink... but as you said, i dont think we will ever know

The media isn't interested in telling us anything except 'OMG FEAR THIS NO WAIT BE SCARED OF THIS OH LOOK HOW HORRIBLE THIS CELEBRITY'S NOSE JOB IS TERRARRRR!!!'. Whatever they can to sell more papers/eyeballs. Mass media in general these days is a joke, and somewhat ironically I end up turning to 'state-run' media like the CBC and BBC for general news than the crapfest that is CanWest Global and their love for Fox News-esque stories, and for hot-button issues, trying to dig out the dissenting voices on the Internet to try and get the whole story while doing my best to understand each side's bias.
Of course that's too much work for most people to be genuinely informed of the world around them, and big media companies prey on that, spoon-feeding the populace whatever makes them money, be it from said populace's wallets directly, or from various companies pushing their wares via ads. There's a reason I never pick up the '24' or 'Metro' dailies on my way to work. I read them for a few weeks and gave up... they're so... trashy. x.x

Furry#2: "One sec... *fap fap fap*"
Furry#1: "*fap fap fap*"
Furry#2: "Okay, now we can call the police."

well, having claimed to be furry, he probably showed off to his furry friends. Look! Glory Hole!
Of course then it could've led to one of two things...

2. Hey man, that's awesome, can we try? / No, it's my dog, get your own. I don't want both my dog getting your herpes/stds. / *revenge*

yea, but they (media) still made Fursuiters look like nothing but a sex kink. They tried, granted, but, Fursuits still didn't get a very positive light. Don't think any real damage gas been done though, aside from the damage already done by the media. I'm not to worried.

That, unfortunately is the only effort they made.
