1. Whomever wants to ask. In straight couples, girls have been known to ask the guys. *shrug*
2. Nope! I don't think it needs to be a ring. My fingers are chubby and a ring would have to be specially sized, so I would prefer like... an engagement necklace or something.

1 what Zenia said
2 there was a couple that used honey cruellers as wedding rings at Tim Hortons once. Also, people probably give rings because its tradition. How would you know that the necklace some one is wearing is an engagement necklace? Not sure how that tradition was started, but there you go. you wouldn't have to give an engagement ring, or even an expensive one, it's mostly just to show that the person is taken (I could be wrong on that. too lazy for wikipedia.)

1. ....
2. How about finding something that means something ... to give as the engagement gift. I think its just supposed to mean something more than getting an expensive ring that no one can really afford. (my $0.02)

Yeah, I am not interested in a big, expensive diamond ring. If it had to be a ring, I'd prefer a amethyst ring in silver or white gold with accents on either side of the main stone. That is something I would love to look at every day. :3

Just for the heck of it, I went to Ben Moss just now to get an example.
I think this one is really cute. (http://www.benmoss.com/birthstones/february/24413-amethyst-and-diamonds-10k-white-gold)

Q: When 2 guys or girls love one another in a gay relationship and think about getting/wanting to get married. Who is supposed to propose to the other?

Q: Also do you always have to give a ring in a proposal? can it be something else or nothing at all?
A: that is a good question and I have no answer
A: I would go with a ring since its traditional plus most people know what it means

I have known some gay guys to get things like bracelets so to speak like not flashy ones really, maybe something gold plated or with names engraved a gem stone or two. Me and my mate often thought about this and we would more honestly opt for something engraved that isn't too flashy.

I have broken logic about equality and all that jazz.  That said I think the answers would be something along the lines of...

1: Either.  You either are interested in marraige and will ask, or you wont/aren't.  It just ends up being who thought of it first/wants it the most.
2: I'd imagine it'd be about sharing a gift with each other.  Preferablly something that ages well with time to kind of symbolize longetivity with their relationship.  That could be something they wear like rings/necklace.  It could also be something they keep around to remind each other of it.  Thinking metal would still be a good idea because of how well it ages vs a lot of other deteriating objects that are more organic, ect.
