: Interesting furry friends wanted for short 5 minute documentary! :)
: Emeee October 14, 2011, 11:21:43 -06:00
Hey all!
My name is Melissa. I'm a documentary film-maker who moved to the area from Pennsylvania in January to study in Vancouver. I'm very much intrigued by furry fandom and am hoping there might be a few people interested in being part of a short film i'm making!

I don't consider myself part of the furry community, but I am greatly intrigued by it. My roots are very much rooted in social issues and sub-cultures. I'm looking for someone who is willing to take me inside of their world in a well-intentioned film that may prove break a bit of the stigma attached to people here in BC allowing themselves to embrace ways of life that may be considered to be outside of the norm!

Nothing formal here. Just seeking to ask a few interview questions regarding the community and the road you took to get there and attend a social gathering, convention or party. If you'd prefer to only appear in costume that is more than fine! I'm very adaptable about how we approach individual stories, and very much want each person to feel comfortable, be soley in control of how they and the community are portrayed, and overall to be openminded and willing to join me in this unique and dynamic experiment!

All those interested please get in touch with me!

Hi Melissa,

First I'd like to let you know that furry has had a very rough past with media and many people here will be reluctant to interact with media.

A sample of your past work will set a lot of people's minds at ease, as we'll have a sense of the tone in which you treat your subject.

Personally I've been a furry for going on 6 years and have seen the furry scene in person across most of North America.

I'm with Ember on this one.  If we can see some samples of your work and everything looks good, I'll be more inclined to agree to an interview with you.  As Ember said: the furry community is just now crawling into a more positive spotlight with the media, and a lot of us are wary of losing the ground we've gained in the last couple years.

I agree as well. I cannot say i'd even do it then (I don't speak publicly very well anyways), but it would definitely put some souls at ease about what your doing, what you've done and we can make a decision from there.

These always seem weird.  I consider myself to be quite furry, but my life is really quite normal unfortunately.  Only possible difference is I enjoy costuming, artwork, and hang out on the Internet more than most people would. :-)

Hm, it's been a while since we get responses from Emeee. I'll have to say I have to agree with Temrin and Naetholix as well. To reiterate my point of interest as stated earlier in my post above, your intentions seem to be good, but Proof (with a capital P) is quite integral on turning an amber light into at least an amber-green light on this one.

Perhaps by then, I might be able to find an hour off my school schedule to agree with an interview of sorts. I've taken a course regarding Qualitative Research last summer and I may be able to offer a bit of guidance in terms of the research trajectory, y'know, a form of participant action research (PAR) of sorts.  ;)

I'd like to see the final project at very least, please keep us posted! (I'm comfortable with public speaking, but I would not be a very good person to talk to about the fandom for oh so many reasons haha)
