: Budgies Need a Home!
: Star Wonder May 20, 2009, 01:29:54 -06:00
As some of you know I work at an awesome pet store that actually takes care of their animals. We have several budgies who aren't feeling good, and the bosses don't want to spend the money to make them better with simple medicine or just get them checked by our avian veterinarian. So it is my job to find them good homes! They are free, some of them have bonded to each other, perhaps better to go in pairs, I believe there are five.

One has a feather condition that requires meds but is perfectly healthy otherwise, and is always snuggling another bird for warmth.

There is one where her cere has been chewed beyond repair but she is in full health, just not sellable from how she looks.

The others I am not sure what is wrong.
One is very thin but eats and eats and shows tell tale signs of sickness however has been living for the past two months in this same condition and I've been keeping my eyes on him.
There is another with a lump on the cheek but we don't know if it a tumor, or just a cyst, she came to us like that, it has not gotten bigger, and she seems very healthy and active. We did have a vet check it, she said it was a tumor and that she wouldn't last a month... She has been in our ICU room for about seven months from when they first arrived from an aviary that closed down. We ended up with over two hundred budgies it was a nightmare!
There is one last female who acts kinda funny, but we cannot diagnose what is wrong. She flips over on her back when she's panicked. She also lays on her tummy when she sleeps.

These birds have seemed to be living alright, we are not sure which ones are truly unsavable and which ones are, but I was put in charge of finding them caring homes that will take care of them. They are funny, but not very tame. Some of them love the bells we put in the cage and flip on their backs to play with it with their feet. Same with the other toys. They just need very good homes.

Can anyone help? No they don't come with a cage unfortunately, one must be provided. The bigger the better. And of course need toys and what not. I am willing enough to buy toys for the new owners just so long as they get good homes. <3 I have five birds, and already took two home sick. They are now very healthy and happy. I just need help finding homes for the rest.

I'm not 100% but I might be able to take a couple. I already have one, but she has some extreme people issues. You can't get within 5 feet before she starts backing away and freaking out. I've had her for about a year now. Otherwise she's perfectly healthy.

I do have another cage with toys and stuff just laying around so I can clean those and I might be able to take one or two. It's a little small, but I can hopefully tame them after time so they can just fly around. :\

Budgies are the easiest of the birds to tame. For one, you don't let their wings grow out until they are fully tame and never ever chase them around. And make sure they have plenty of fruits and veggies Every. Single. Day. It is actually extremely important they get fruits and veggies. Most never feed them that and the max they live is two to five years. They die of fatty liver disease, kidney failure or heart attack. It's like eating mc Donald's all your life and expecting to be healthy lol...

What are the dimensions of the cage? Both? You can have them separate until you introduce them then put them together after the introduction period is over.

I dont know the exact dimensions, but the currently being used one is a medium size. The other is just a very small, round, white one.

The current one stays upstairs and I was going to get a budgie or finch eventually for the white cage to keep downstairs. :3

I can keep them close though and introduce them together and see how it goes. If they start hating each other then i can move them apart but if they like it together then ill keep them both upstairs in one cage. We used to have another tame one with the current budgie, but he managed to escape out an open door :\

Hun, first and foremost, get rid of that round cage. They belong in museums. They are HORRIBLE cages. They actually cause panic in birds because there is no corner for them to feel safe in. And there are no big round ones that have more length because birds need length for wing stretching and what not, rather than height. Don't even use that round one for any sort of bird. They don't even hold toys well let alone room to play and what not. Even finches should not be in a round cage. Again, length is more important than height. I wouldn't even put a budgie in the round one for introduction because they would freak. Round cages are a big big big mistake they should have never been invented. They were made for looks, and not for the bird.

If you could get the dimensions of the other cage it would be appreciated. I can also let you borrow one of my small square cages I use to introduce my budgies over a week-long process. Budgies get along fairly well but I have seen some nearly kill others that were just thrown into the cage. Aka, one of the budgies we have to give away because of her poor nose.

Budgies should have their wings clipped because of their skiddish nature.

OH! Okay thanks! I didn't know that. Well I know the cage that my budgie is in now probably shouldn't have more than one because it's kind of a medium size. So I don't think I could take any then. But, good luck with the search?

They need luck not me... It's a race against time and very few people even read certain forums...
