Hmm....now what could this be?  Looks complicated...and mysterious ???

working on a fur suit cooling system are you.

That was quick.  We'll see if it pans out.

Those look like PC based Water Cooling components though. That'll be unique. Where will the radiator be?

Macgyver it into a jet pack with a built in orange juice maker! you only get those parts, a green paper clip, two rubber soled water shoes, a cap gun, and three DVD copies of Kicking And Screaming with Will Ferrel.

I was gonna say an LED fan comp. for a pewter... XD seen a lot of them at Michigan Tech when I was there for a class XD

I'm going to load the tail up with ice packs and coil the tubing around it.

Ha! I always knew you were the type to stuff your tail hole.

Okay so...

The pump draw is 9.6 Watts, voltage is 12 volts. From this info I determine it has a draw of 0.8 amps, or 800mA.
My batteries had a capacity of 2000mAh, why were they draining in under 5 minutes?  Any furries into electronics here? :)

You say 'had'? First off, what kind of battery pack are you using, how many volts are you getting from it? Is it a new pack? How low a voltage are they getting when you notice them being 'drained'? Batteries are a very fickle species, depending on what types you use, or even how you charge and drain them. Some kinds don't like it when you draw charge over a certain amperage from them. So on.

8 rechargeable AAs placed in series, so 12V.  They were newly recharged.

I don't have a voltmeter, but I do have a battery charge indicator that showed them as being "drained".

I placed a fan speed controller in between the batteries and the pump, which I figured would only improve my battery consumption as it slows down the pump, took it out and trying again.

Ah.. the 8 rechargeables issue. You might think your getting the full 12 volts out of the 8, but actually with rechargeable batteries, your only getting 1.2volts from each instead of the 1.5volts you would usually get from non-recharageables. I had this same issue with a portable radio of mine. Try it with ten of the 1.2v rechargeable batteries and see how long that lasts you instead, if you can.

I'm actually doing that right now, it's been running 15 minutes so far without problems.  Thanks for the advice!

I'd suggest poking Loial about a rechargeable Li-ION battery pack and voltage regulation circuit at some point, Uni. Lasts longer, and it's somewhat less rough on hardware if you can give it a regulated power supply.

We have water flow!

Next step: the balaclava.

Alright it looks like not much work was done but I assure you, gluing tubing to the inside of the balaclava took ages and ages.

Now testing using a bundle of otterpops as my cooling source!

Hehehe - thanks!  It seems to be working okay, just gotta build it into my suit.
And if it doesn't, I'll have some neat modern art.  I'll just spice it up with some LEDs and put it up on my wall.

If you started building these to sell, I'd totally buy one or four.

We'll see if it's suitable (pardon the pun) for sale - I'll keep posting as progress continues and try it out in the field a few times before I start thinking of making more :)

whoaaaa careful u don't get frozen to it and end up with fur suit frost bite.
that probably could be a Guinness record tho

I tested this thing out at RF, and it worked perfectly...for about 15 minutes ;)

Must come up with a more efficient cooling medium than ice!
