Anybody play this game? It's a free to play game(AKA Micro transaction) game largely about World War II era tanks.
Names Fazar in game if anyone wants to hit me up.
I might try it because I got some free bonus tanks + gold from the PAX merch. But not super thrilled with it so far, too much of a learning curve off the bat. Damn tanks and stuff are confusing ....
They have some tutorial videos posted, they may help.
Maybe, it's mostly learning the tech and all the stupid tank names. letter number whozawhatsitnow?
Things you need to know:
Heavy tanks: Lots of armor, large weapons (May need upgrades to get them), slower on average. They can take hits and give hits, but that doesn't mean if ou're paying with one you should stand around.
Medium tanks: Decent armaments (sometime better than heavies), good speed, light armor. Your main job is to run around heavies, flanking other mediums, knocking out lights that try for your atillery and generally causing confusion so the heavies can pound the larger targets.
Light tanks: Moderate to weak arments, extremely light armor, best speeds (usually), camo bonus. You job is to scout. Hide, evade and wind you way through other tanks to light them up for arty, cause confusion or provide a firing target for your other tanks. Try to not stop moving as if something big zeros in on you, you're usually dead in a shot or two.
Tank hunters: Big guns, moderate to heavy armor, slow, camoflauge bonus, slow turning. Your job is to ambush and snipe from afar. Usually the armor on these things allow a lot of bounces, but when another tank gets the right position or right armament you can easily become a cloud of debris. Try to hang back and put shells in targets you can hurt.
Artilley: Weak armor, moderate speed, long reload times, huge guns and only tank that can use indirect fire. our job is to hide and assault from the distance. Try to find some cover that gives you wide view of the battle while also sheltering you from enemy fire and discovery. If something find you you're usually dead either by that thing or the opposing arty that will zero you soon after.
Golden rule of any tank is shoot them in the rear. Other good points are lower sides, under the hull (if you can manage) Or directly on to the top of the tank (if they are tilted so their top is exposed). Every tank will also have key spots where the hull is weakest just because they were engineered that way, allowing for some damage if you cannot manage to get a more choice spot (example, a KV-5 is not very strong on the gun shielding, so if you hve to stare down a KV-5, shoot the armor beside the gun).
As for standard upgrades, treads and turret are always a good choice to upgrade. Treads affect max speed, engine alters acceleration, radio allows you to communicate with more of your allies (great for light tanks), and turrets affect visibility and max sight range.
Guns are a little more complex as you have guns that shoot quick but small rounds with low pen and damage, large and slow rounds with high pen and damage. Each gun has it's own dynamics and usually you need to choose what works best through experience. There is also the choices of ammo for these guns (unless you're locked in to a certain type). AP ammo has high piercing damage but that is affected by the range from your target. HE has a low penetration rate but can do massaive damage if it makes it through. HE is also not affected by range and has a higher chance of criticals when it hits.
Invite is still open, just make sure to send me a name of your in game name. I can try to use lower tier tanks to help new people, and we can voice chat. It'll be fun :)
Thread necro powers ACTIVATE!
Totally got into this in the last couple of weeks. >_< I'm only at tier 4, but playing constantly. AlephErsatz is my name there.
Totally didn't see this Zen. You still running? Want anyone to platoon with or got questions for someone who's played over 7000 games? :)
Off and on, got to Tier V but irritated at how much I suck. (Working down the German Heavy tree to the Maus) I play with Patthefox most of the time, and he's at about 3K matches.
AlephErsatz is my name their, feel free to add me.
Used to play it regularly but kinda stopped when they stopped caring about balancing new tanks they put in and just make it overpowered then the next even more OP. I still go on once a week usually to own in the panzer 2, marder 2 and hetzer.
probably will play it more frequently again when they get around to fixing a few of the major bugs.
I think I may have known one of your big issues Zen, the Pz38NA is one of the most painful experiences in the game. It suffers from "Tier 4 Light" syndrome. Basically forced into a non-combative role.
Panzer IV is actually pretty good once you get it's long 7.5cm gun, but still suffers from the poor match making that is a tier 5 tank.
Also I'm not entirely sure what you're talking about Zelminax, they add new tanks, then nerf them shortly afterwards if they are too OP. Namely the french autoloaders as a recent example, or the Type 59. I'm also not sure what bugs they have aside from like getting stuck on terrain sometimes in fast vehicles.
ya but before they used to balance the tanks before they added them. main glitch was the pen for no damage or crits, usually happens if you hit a soft spot on a tank. but i have poor luck so usually 3 of my 4 shells into a tank do nothing but pen the armour. and ya some of the tanks are painful to grind 2 that i know were painful for me were the 3001p and the stock luchs.
I ended up having some of the luxury to free XP out of 'stock' experience, but I liked my 3001P actually, same with the 3601, but didn't like the 3001H.
They do balance before they come out, least they did with the T34(tier 8), IS-4, and T110. I'm kind of excited for the british tanks, and Tier 10 Mediums though :D
They are kind of balanced but they usually make the slightly better than the last tank released the newest american heavy has almost as much front hull armour as the maus but with much more slope and much better speed than the maus. And a guy in my clan was complaining it was underpowered and needed more armour and firepower to go with its good speed
Also I can't wait for the comet or if they get to it the sturmtiger
Tier 10 meds will be interesting same with the TD's. The russian tier 10 td looks like it would be a good snowplow
remembered why i don't like Wot anymore i have really really really bad luck.
I have a T110, and I can say that the armour 'looks' tougher from the other side. Infact, I feel the M103(tier 9) has more effective armour than the T110. I've had a lot more fun, and effective armour with the IS-7 in my opinion, heck even the E-100 which has glaring weakspots feels like it has more effective armour than the T110.
I know how 'bad luck' can be. But hopefully after AC, I can platoon with some of you guys, it's more fun with friends :)
Also yeah, the New Russian TD looks like a good snow plow lol. Everyone kee[s saying that.
I kind of stopped playing for now, or at least, in very limited runs. I didn't mind scouting with the nA once I figured out how to survive a little, but the Hetzer is a pain and the PzIV makes me want to punch things. I cannot medium tank to save my life it seems, just so frustrating.
Next time you want to play I'll pull out one of my shermans and run along side you. That way you can see my epic (fail!) tank skills that mostly involve the Knights of the Round Table strategy.
dancing and singing is a good distraction in most situations, doesn't work well in tanks though no room to dance. anyway to attempt to make this tread more i feel like asking what is the most epic moment you have had in WoT.?
I think one of the more hilarious moments I've had was tying up a kv in an american t2 medium.
The kv had a trio of small tank just plinking away at him and was slowly trying to come up the hill we were on when I made a dash over the hill and tracked him. I then spent the next five minutes circling the KV, doing maybe 5-10% damage over the course of the whole thing and making the other tanker very cross. He was sporting a derp cannon so he just couldn't follow me, and all I could do was just crit him over and over with HE.
Eventually one of the remaining hetzers came over and took a shot to finish it off.
