: Vancouver Con Puns
: Karo the Dingo April 12, 2011, 03:01:30 -06:00
So Ive herd that Vancouver is trying to get its self a con.

i think this is a good idea, i like the idea means we get more people to see how cool Vancouver is...

But what i don't like is the name of the Con, I dont want Vancouver to be another Furry Convention Pun.

We already have "Howloween" instead of "Halloween"
and Edmonton is trying to have a con called "Fur-EH?"
And theres "Riv-Fur" in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
And "Califur" as in "Califurnia" as in "California"

Isn't Vancouver just a little smarter then that? cant we have a better name then " VancouFUR"?

If I remember correctly there was a few name suggestions besides 'vancoufur' but came down to votes.

I totally agree with you. I like some of the puns, but it's getting old now. We need something regular like Furry Weekend Atlanta.

Something like Vancouver Fuzz Connection

...Or something else. *ahem*

Well there were meetings held and name suggestions asked for. Not many came in so out of the names that were put in Vancoufur was the one voted for. The main point at this time is Vancouver is going to have a furry convention next year. We are taking name and numbers for those who would like to help, you can post your offer of help on the convention thread.

One would suggest that some more name options would have come out had the fact there was going to be a name chosen been posted here and suggestions solicited. Unless I missed it, the first I heard that a name had been chosen was after the fact.

Indeed with three public meetings over the past 3 months, it's far past the point of "hey lets name this gathering". I don't mean to be an ass, but you guys are too late to be chipping in ideas now..

I didnt ever think i could ever change the name. i just wanted to point this out.

I'm not part of the comity or whatever. i don't have any right to change the name, or to discus it.

Fair enough, I suppose, though I don't recall the subject of the name ever coming up in regards to the announcements of those meetings. A wider group discussion, like the vote on the mascot ideas, might have been a good idea at some point.
I don't have the time to get involved with the con right now, so this is the best I can do for input. Sorry if it's a bother.

To be fair, do you guys want to be known as vancoufur for the next god knows how many years you're going to run the convention?

: Brittany-shadowwolf April 14, 2011, 06:36:54 -06:00
I think we can do better, I mean 'Anime Evolution' had NO Canadian references What so ever. It's still a pretty swanky name.

Fur central. Man I'm not feeling the creative juices today.
"Furnadia" wow... Nope I lost it.

Also anyone thought about a theme for the first year? Like Howl has halloween, Rainfurrest had zombies one year, Anthrocon had Aliens exc.... Themes catch peoples short attention spans.

That is a very valid point.

The general theme for our first year is "Great White North"

It will probably be fine-tuned a little by actual con time, but that's where we're headed right now. We welcome any ideas for future themes though, and for refining the "Great White North" idea.
