So yeah, my brother lent me his old acoustic-electric guitar, and I was bored. :p
Guitar is an Agile HRB-200-12 BLUE, only standard 6 strings on it, old and dead.
Vocal mic is a Shure SM58.
Done with my Mackie Onyx 1620 board w/ FireWire card and Logic Express 8.

Love your voice in Plush! I'm amazed at what you do with that shoddy equipment.. Blows my mind!
You don't need a female vocalist/pianist/guitar.. attempter for anything, do you? <: lmao. We should collab on something someday.
Keep up the good work!
Well, the board itself isn't exactly shoddy, so I'm sure that helps. ;p This is just what happens when you've been playing for most of your life.
I'm totally down for collaborating on something or just jamming - what kind of stuff do you like/listen to, typically? :)
One more; love the way the solo turned out. :P
"Rooster" (Orig. by Alice in Chains) (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5140932/)
Damn, as I mentioned on FA, I'm totally surprised by how awesome your singing is! Great for those low-tone grunge stuff! You ever tried doing any Pearl Jam? *hint hint*
I don't know/have many Pearl Jam songs off-hand, but if I were to pick one that'd fit acoustic, I'd probably try and do 'Alive'. :p
Maybe; we'll see if I can learn/play it. Sounds like my band practice is cancelled today since almost everyone (including me) is or is getting sick. x.x I'm sure all the grit-voice-singing doesn't help my throat. ;P
Here ya go, Zen. :p
"Alive" (Orig. by Pearl Jam) (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5141672/)
Holy damn! That is totally awesome. Thank you!
No problem. XD Once I'm not so sick I might do some more for fun as I learn them. See if I can re-do Brand New's "Play Crack the Sky", maybe in a drop-tuning so it's more in my range, and do it all grungy. :p
Because I'm that hardcore, I even record when my throat is already raw from horrible plague of doom.
"You Know You're Right" (Orig. Nirvana) (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5155100/)
Dude! You should be resting! But throat of doom is great for nirvana.
I think this is probably my favorite of the these covers thus far. Damn you for being awesome! (and having a recording board!)
The one spot where my voice cracks (2nd chorus, the +octave register) pisses me off, but at the same time, you listen to the original and Kurt's all over the place. I don't feel so bad; that's the style, so screw it - it stays in. ;P
I wish I had more range, because the whole grunge/alternative thing does get kind of boring after a while, but you play the cards you're given, eh?
I heard that, but considering you were sick, amazing you could do three takes of that. At least you have some decent vocals, I think the best I can cover is the bee gees ... or daft punk.
Well they weren't really three full takes; I screwed up timing half-way through, or something like that. I'm sort of tempted to double-track the vocals like the original, but it's not really the almost-off-the-floor acoustic cover style I'm going for; the overdub solo in 'Rooster' was a bit much, even. ;)
My nose hurts. D: It's raw from blowing it so much with cheap toilet paper, or even paper towel (D: D: D:) all day. X.X;
Yayyyy! The Nirvana cover sounds incredible.
I wanna hear you try Blitzen Trapper or Nick Drake's singing style.
Me? I listen to just about everything. I have a bit of a hearing sensitivity unfortunately so I have to take metal/hard rock/anything with really hard drums in light doses and don't appreciate them as much as other genres for that reason. Acoustic, folk and alternative are probably what the bands I listen to fall into.
I love Ani Difranco, Xavier Rudd, Animal Collective, Battles, Bon Iver, Cocorosie, Dave Matthews Band, Earth Wind & Fire, Eddie Vedder/Pearl Jam, Freelance Whales, Fun, Gorillaz, Infected Mushroom, Iron & Wine, Jethro Tull, Jonsi/Sigur Ros, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Nick Drake, Blitzen Trapper, Patrick Wolf, Prince, Ratatat, Shpongle, etc.
Anything that isn't sleazy basically.. I usually don't like Nickelback or Brittany Spears or whatever the kids are listening to nowadays lololol
Also WOAH I must have missed that Onyx 1620 part. Jealous! :3 I'd love to learn more about recording in general.
Man I need to start singing and playing again.. I haven't in forever, since University crippled my creative drive. Do you have any tips? For vocals especially.
I'm doing Singing Success lessons starting today but other than that I have no idea where to start in improving.
I don't know either, so I'll have to listen and learn. :P
Checked with L&M today - my board was paid off on Christmas; was a 6 month finance thing, so I own it free and clear now. :D It's a sick board (http://www.mackie.com/products/discontinued/onyx1620/index.html); not the latest 1620i version (http://www.mackie.com/products/onyx1620i/index.html), but with the separate FireWire card. Basically the same thing, though.
Vocal-wise, honestly, it just takes years of practice, and a willingness to push yourself just a little bit every day - try and extend both the top and bottom end of your range, practice vibrato.. I know some people that actually sing scales to help them hit the notes accurately from the moment they call for them (I tend to 'slide' into them lazily), and for styles that require it, learning to control your internal 'grit' or gain knob to go from clear and breathy to hoarse and grungy. ;) I'm still learning all that, which is kind of the point of this whole exercise for me.
That all said, here's one more with stupid amounts of overdubs: "Play Crack the Sky" (Orig. Brand New) (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5160343/)
Not familiar with Brand New, but that was good, liked the double tracking and over dub. Works well with the acoustic still.
The biggest issue I have is that I have a motherboard with USB and on-board sound. I either need a new sound card, preferably with midi in, or a cheap mixing board. I know someone with a 4 channel mixer, and they're under $200, so that's about my range.
I don't really care to much for the majority of the bands you have covered so far, with the exception of the cover of Alice in Chains "Rooster". My mind keeps placing the drums and bass line in the background even though there aren't any. =P
This probably one of the better covers of Rooster I've heard in a while now.

Yeah - there's not a lot I can cover with a baritone-ish vocal range that's not like... grunge. C.C; If I could pull off higher stuff properly I'd probably do it. :p
Thanks, though!
At least you are recording your covers. I have a mild phobia of recording equipment. =P
