: З Різдвом Христовим друзі!
: Renwaldo January 06, 2011, 11:58:39 -07:00
Merry Ukrainian Christmas everybody! :D

According to the Pukes and the Poles, Jesus was actually born today.  ^-^

I've spent the better part of this evening eating more garlic than what is likely considered healthy, and I feel a little bit sick. XP
We had borcht, polski, kovbasa, krout, pirogi, holubsti and medivnyk. For you normies who only speak Engrish, the food is not as exotic and scary as it sounds - trust me. Basically just a lot of sausage and over cooked plants.  ;D

But good god what a lot of garlic! Garlic and onions. Our house smells like a Euro trash diner right now. Or a russian whore house.  :(

I'm Polish but we never celebrate Orthodox Christmas with a huge celebration. My parents are both Polish immigrants and they follow many Polish traditions still but as far as Christmas goes, we keep our tree up for a while. I forgot when though. Something Christian. I'm Wiccan so I don't pay attention to these things.

As for your feast, I am mighty jealous. I love European foods. Maybe it's the Polish in me that makes me enjoy my sour fermented cabbages and smoked sausages.

My Dad is Greek Orthodox, so we have a HUGE Easter Dinner, looking forward to that feast. Sounds like you had some good food, oh and I don't think it's possible to have too much garlic. x3

I know it's late now, but I simply have to keep this discussion alive.
Doesn't anybody else here celebrate Ukrainian Christmas?  :P I guess it's more of an old farts' holiday.

I vaguely remember celebrating as a child. Haven't for many years now. I'm 1/4 Ukranian. My grandmother is fully. Her father and step mother immigrated here.

I'm Polish but we never celebrate Orthodox Christmas with a huge celebration.

Isn't this to do with Poland being Roman Catholic, rather than Eastern Orthodox? (therebuy using the Gregorian rather than the Julian calendar)
