: Play your own D&D character in upcoming movie
: RainRat December 24, 2010, 10:55:21 -07:00
Just saw this:

"Do you think your Dungeons & Dragons character has the "it" factor? Are you ready for your close up? Now's your chance to turn those daydreams into a reality!

Dungeons & Dragons and Silver Pictures are joining together for the ultimate casting call in search of the most menacing, flavorful NPC as created by you. The winning character will be brought to life on the big screen – played by YOU."

Unlike some offers that are only for people in the USA, this one is open to Canada as well.

I read the rules, my only concern is if we enter our character, we still are owners of the account/character if we win, correct? As in it still belongs to me, not wizards, they just use the character in the movie. It doesn't become their property where I can't use her anymore? (If that makes sense?) D:

Without reading it, I can say that if your only concern is using her for D&D.. even characters that are already property of Wizards are encouraged to be used by players as NPCs through their content books; I really see no way (or reason) they could stop anyone from playing as particular characters. x3

If your concern was using them for future endeavours/publishing/art etc., it would technically be their property and you'd have to start crediting them.

Edity: Thanks for sharing this, RainRat. :3

I giggled a bit when I got all excited about entering my favourite character, and then realised.. there's no way I could play a big macho male yuan-ti. xD

The makeup session would take forever.

Ohh, kay. But I mean if the character was made with a character builder, then it's basically the same thing? Like, I don't want to lose ownership of her, haha XD as well as be the only person who plays her >_> cuz she is my girl.. lol  ;D

And lol, your character, what is it? XD

It's quite clear in the official rules that you give them all the rights to the character.

But as Luna points out, I don't think they'd have a way or reason to prevent you from using it for personal use.

Humm.. I'm gonna have to think about this for a while, I don't know if I want to give up my rights to my girl. At least not until I get more information about this. :/

Rofl. The mental image that gives me is just hilarious.

Yeah, I find I have the same issue with Arks, my twelve-year-old rogue. As much as I love him, somehow, I don't think I would be a very convincing street rat.
