: How bored do other furs get?
: Roffo November 26, 2010, 08:01:53 -07:00
Is it just me, or am I bored about practically everything that I do?

*ponders*

I will be in the middle of an exciting activity - such as sewing - and instantly become bored. Most videogames make me bored, and some food makes me bored. I have so many hobbies these days, that I have become bored with them.

So, does anyone else become bored occasionally? Do you wish that you could find something to do that is a tad more thrilling?

Wait, maybe I should make a youtube account and post videos to pass the time O.O

It comes about mostly when I'm gaming, usually on my own. Though it depends. Playing against the computer doesn't have that same appeal as compared to going up against another player or together with someone against the computer. I guess it comes about because I used to multiplay with people on a network when I started getting more into the PC game genre.

Other than that, not really sure. More just a sense of boredom in general right now. Could just be a seasonal thing with less light out and the wet weather.

Being French, I was born bored.

I get bored of one thing and move on to another. Its not uncommon for me to finish something half way, then get bored and forget about it.

I find I need to be motivated to remain interested, by friends, Pure need, or self preservation.. Haha.

I've been very bored since I quit work on Halloween. I want another job, or the means to go back to school.  :P

Without an income there's noting out there for me to do! Everything uses up money.  :(

I'm kinda the same way - even for djing - I have my equipment yet either have no motivation to use it or energy. I notice that I quickly lose interest in activities if I am not being social with others.

One of the signs of depression is not getting enjoyment from things you once did. The reason you get tired of things when you are being social may actual be a light depression.

I was reading that being bored is actually good for you at times. They are actually encouraging parents to make sure kids get bored now and again. I know it sounds weird, right? Anyway I get bored now and again but then I just do a chore or something and it goes away or yell at my roomies to do stuff. LOL

One sad sign of the state of mind many people have in our instant-gratification society is when people repeatedly find themselves 'bored' and unable to find a way to cure that.  Too many of the new generation is used to having entertainment provided for them 100% of the time, and they're unable to actually think in terms of what they actually want to do.  Cause and effect thinking, essentially, rather than planning and forethought.

I doubt there is anything that bugs me more than when someone randomly says to me, "I'm bored.. what should I do?"  I have some kid on my IM list that randomly found me and does this nearly every other day to me.  I mean, is it seriously that difficult to find something to occupy yourself with?  I have way way too much to do all the time that I can't even perceive how someone could come to the point of asking others what THEY should do with themselves.

To answer your question, boredom is something I haven't felt in.. well, I can't even remember when, and I suggest if it's an issue for others here, find a way to give back to the people around you!  It's why I run events and conventions, plus do charity work and host parties :)  Heck, anything that involves a long term and difficult subject will have multiple faucets to it that should keep your mind and body occupied.

Build a fursuit!  Get a dog!  Buy a car and fix it up!  Make a website or a blog!  There are a million things you could do with your time rather than fester in your inability to be 'entertained'.

(I mean no offense by these comments, they are merely my opinion, and I respect what others have said regarding depression and it's link to boredom.  I do find that being occupied deflects depression though)

I get bored pretty easily, but then I will jump on my main vise (video games). Been trying a lot of new things lately, so we shall see how that goes. Of course I still love to go out and get coffee or a bite to eat with friendly folks!

Aphinity's right. There really shouldn't any excuses for anyone to be bore constantly, and that's a problem you notice in younger people more so than older people.

I get bored like nothing else. Especially with my depression. Nothing is very interesting anymore. Life often seems just a long waste of time. :(

Same here.
For the first while during a game or eating I'll be fine, but then I just get bored and uninterested in what I'm doing. Constantly. Lol :P

Phin, I love you.

My kids give me the "I'm bored" when I tell them to turn the TV off.  My answer to them is always "then go do chores!", and usually just ticks them off more.

I personally am always too busy.  Between family, video games, and hobbies, I always have stuff to do.  Even if that "stuff" is just sitting down and relaxing for a few minutes.  I commute between Surrey and Vancouver daily, so I also have stuff to do to pass the time, especially reading.  I love to read, and transit is the perfect place to.

I think the topic has been skewed a bit. I see a difference between those who are bored from the lack of activities, compared to those who get bored by the many activities that they do.

Such as television. It doesn't entertain me as much as I wish it did. I guess certain individuals need more attention? Maybe motivation from other peers?

I've been gradually throwing out all the things from my youth that I really don't need anymore:

- clothes
- toys
- magazines/books

However this has proven to be a boring activity in itself.  :-\

I usually just clean or do my homework. I do the same thing with wow, I play it
For a while and then I get bored as hell.

I find de-cluttering and cleaning helps. Gives you a sense of accomplishment, too. I try to do it in short bursts. This week it was clearing of a ton of old textbooks from my bookshelves and getting rid of them (speaking of which, if anyone wants any old CompSci textbooks, c. 1998-2005, I have a few...)

Do you have anything in Biology, Chemistry or Physics? I'll take any textbooks in those subjects no matter how old they are or what course level they're at.  ;D

I find that changing the arrangement of your home makes things a little less boring.  It's not quite like a change of scenery, but it's a change of something...

Nosir. It's all either CompSci or various liberal arts.

I almost took a bio course at one point, but ended up dropping it because I had five courses (which is considered a "full load", ha ha - not even the CompSci department is buying that one, SFU) and the out-of-class lab work looked like it was going to be pretty involved.
