: Look- a stranger, from the outside! Hurm...
: Rorschachtastic July 10, 2010, 11:01:44 -06:00
So, I'm fairly new to the furry scene- I had always thought that ours was such a small and scattered group. Seeing the people on this website and knowing that we could all meet at a convention someday is an intriguing thought.

Anyways, I am Rorschachtastic, and I would like to take this opportunity to become more involved with the furry fandom. So, for my introduction, I would like to ask a few questions;

Are there any local furcons or gatherings in burnaby or vancouver?
Can one support the fandom without necessarily being a member?
How the hell do you explain this to the people around you?
And of course, is a furrsona required to be a furry? I haven't quite decided on mine yet, hence the "mask" in my avatar picture.

Anyways, I have been friends IRL with another fur on this site for quite some time, and we are in the early stages of planning a furry webcomic. If anyone has any thoughts or would like to know about the project, please visit my profile or message me. For now, who's online at the moment? Don't be shy now, that's my job.

Hi hi and Welcome to the forums. I'll answer your questions as best I can.
Yes there are gatherings. If you explore the "Lower Mainland Events" You'll find a few things there.
Sure you can support the fandom with out being a furry. A couple of people I know do so.
As to giving someone an explanation..I personally have no idea other then to just tell them straight and show them: http://www.anthrocon.org/about-furry. (http://www.anthrocon.org/about-furry.) That is how I've done it but, I'm sure someone else has done is differently.
And don't worry to much about a fursona, it's something you decide on your own.
Also, Good luck with the webcomic. :)

Hello and welcome! I know that there are definatly meets in your area! although i myself have not been to one, what with living in northern BC and all XD

As for supporting the the fandom withought being a "Member" im not sure how i could possible answer that... O.=.o

How do you explain it to people? depends, first off do you need to? if not, dont! but if you want to, i Myself say i have an interest in Anthro art, and like to depict myself with an Avatar online. and it happens to be a dragon (all this is mainly said to avoid having to try to explain everything, its essentially a super simplified version of "who/What" i am)

A fursona? i would say not! a lot of people dont have one, but i think you will find one ^.=.^ (if you REALLY want to get technical in a way i dont have a "Fursona" I have scales!!! ha ha )

And Good luck with the comic!

Good gravy, I never expected this many responses in so short a time. Sorry for responding at a snails pace, but I was called away this morning to attend to some business. Many thanks for your swift answers, and for your welcoming demeanor. I will most certainly enjoy my time here. To my old friend, thanks for posting- and to new ones, It seems we'll get along just fine.

Fursona? You can always try being something unique like me. I'm a Kelpie (Death spirit in the form of a water horse). Ever met a Kelpie before? Welcome! Just don't get too close, I'll probably end up drowning you and eating you for dinner. Lol just joshing. Hope to see you at a fur meet in the future!

Or take something that is common and find a way to make it uncommon.  How many magenta Foxes do you know?  ;)
