Lack of a boyfriend has forced me to actually be productive on my vacation and do various touristy things around the island.  Being the very amateur photographer that I am I took lots of pictures to share and encourage people to explore their own backyard before globetrotting.  Today's misadventure, The Butchart Gardens ($28 entry normally, I got in free  :P) and The Victoria Butterfly Garden ($13 entry)

Our story begins with Buddy the cat I am babysitting and he was none too pleased I was going out for the day.  I distracted him with catnip mouse and snuck out the back

After a short drive after only getting lost once, I made it to Butchart Gardens.  Huh quite the large parking lot, I'll just park in the rabbit section, how convenient

Surely a garden well over a century old, a historic site of Canada and visited yearly by millions will have the kind of veggies I am seeking.  ^-^
I'll start with the Sunken Garden first

Glad you were able to see The Butchart Gardens.  I have never been there, and if the rumors of its closure do to under-attendance are true, I never will.  :(

New Misadventure.  Gowlland Tod Provincial Park -Caleb Pt (its a big park)
http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/explore/parkpgs/gowlland_tod/ (http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/explore/parkpgs/gowlland_tod/)
Gowlland Tod Provincial Park provides excellent day-use recreation opportunities for hiking, nature appreciation and picnicking. More than 25 kilometres of trails, varying in degree of difficulty, offer spectacular views, as well as the chance to view animals in their natural environment.

And its all free  ;D  It is hard to capture the serenity that this park is with pictures

Before I begin let me preface by saying, don't go alone!  Its a big underutilized park you will likely not run into anybody else, I have some specialized training so I felt pretty confident taking the risks.

Geeze, I thought this place would be packed on a Friday following a stat day, oh well hopefully I don't get eaten by a cougar

If you are in the Greater Victoria area and you are looking for something to do this is a great choice if you are an active and adventurous person

Unfortunately did not run into any rabbits :(  That may be on the books for tomorrow or Sunday though  ;)
And sorry the photo quality is not as good.  I am better at macro photography and shooting objects versus scenic shots which I find difficult to compose  :-\

My little adventure this weekend was to the bustling metropolis of Duncan, to see the yearly Duncan Daze festival on the invite of theshyferret (Kori the border collie) he was certainly a cool dude and it was nice to meet another island fur  :) you can read about his experience at http://vifurry.ca/. (http://vifurry.ca/.)  I've been to my fair share of parades and festivals, but this one was one of the better ones, I'll say the festival was 'right sized' you did not feel lost in a sea of people and you can take in the positive atmosphere of the community.  Lots of discount shopping, and lots food options too (giant cookies mmmm)  :).

Best part was the cost of admission was 1 sunburn  :-X I'm a pasty one

Duncan is known as the city of totems.  Its no joke either, there are tons of totems dotting different areas of the city.  All expertly crafted and are one of a kind pieces of art.
(http://img708.imageshack.us/img708/594/dsc00567a.th.jpg) (http://img708.imageshack.us/i/dsc00567a.jpg/)

The Duncan/Cowichan Valley fire departments had a very large showing in the parade.  The had a wide variety of fire trucks on display including some very old models such as this one.  There was also a fire fighter dunk tank by city hall for charity  >:D
(http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/1109/dsc00597v.th.jpg) (http://img256.imageshack.us/i/dsc00597v.jpg/)

There were two bagpipe bands at the parade.
