Name a few! Lets see what is out there.
Some that stand out for me are those low budget horror films.
-Army of Darkness.
A wise guy, stuck in the past with a bad attitude.
-Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer.
A plumber with rage issues, who goes to town on monsters with tools.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
He-Man
Howard The Duck
Amelie
Heavy Metal
Swamp Thing(cheeeeeeeeesie)
Older stuff...
Harold and Maude
The Fountainhead (awesome!)
The Day The Earth Stood Still(the original)
Plus those already mentioned and many more these are just the ones I could think of quickly.
Evil Dead 1 & 2 (hurray for Bruce Campbell and Sam Rami)
The fog
Night of the Living Dead
The Blob
Children of the corn (scared the crap out of me)
Dracula
Blazing Saddles
Road House
Thats all I can think of that I would reccommend

2.) Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry - Had some of the best chase scenes seen in movies at that time.

I have wanted to watch mad max for a long time. I will have to download it. >____>
Actually, "Mad Max" and "The Road Warrior" are two totally seperate movies. One being a (much cooler) prequel to the other.

Mt Turn - I have the DVD's for both Mad Max and the Road Warrior....I'll never forget the incredible WOW factor that I got from Road Warrior when I first saw it in a theater.
Pee Wee Herman's Big Adventure
The Wizard
Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory
Back To The Future 1, 2 & 3
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Harry Potter & The Prisoner Of Azkaban (my fav HP movie, the rest range from mediochre to outright crap)
: Digi-Fox April 11, 2009, 03:21:59 -06:00Harry Potter & The Prisoner Of Azkaban (my fav HP movie, the rest range from mediochre to outright crap)
I found Prisoner of Azkaban pretty meh up until about the midpoint, after which point it redeemed itself reasonably well.
Also, good lord - no one has mentioned Dr. Strangelove.
Pretty much all the major Kubrick Movies should be mentioned too. Namely 2001: A Space Odyssey, Full Metal Jacket, The Shining, I think someone already mentioned Clockwork Orange.
I Just finished watching Apocalypse Now a few hours ago and felt it would be a noteworthy mention here.
For those who never seen it, not your typical war movie, definitely not for the weak of heart. The amount of animal cruelty in it is insane! (and human cruelty for that matter!) I've never seen so much ill will on film, but as much gore and violence there is, it never feels gratuitous. The film actually does us a favor by only showing us a slice of the in-universe bloodshed.
The musical score is what really does it for me though. Especially the eerie and jarring synth soundtracks to accompany the river ride from hell this movie takes us on.
Fear and loathing in las vegas !!!!!!
and of course Army of darkness

Of the three Mad Max Movies, The second one "The Road Warrior" is the best.
One cult classic is The Warriors, were a street gang in new york are hunted down, because the other gangs believe they murdered the leader of one the highest gangs in the city, it's made in 1979 and is literally a classic film!

We analyzed the assassination scene for it's use of changing status in my Exercises in Visual Communication class.
Finally saw
Blade Runner last week (whaaaaaaaaa?). I can see what all of the fuss is about.
Is Rocky Horror Picture show considered a cult classic?
~~shadowwolf
It's more than that. Rocky Horror is the biggest cult film of them all!
Since we are on the eve of The First Avenger's cinematic appearance, I though we might to journey back all the way to 1990 for the original Captain America feature film. I have seen this film three times no thanks to its repeated showings on Teletoon. It was created by the same people who brought us Superman IV...Yes, Superman IV. That one. I know. Anyway, it's no better (maybe even worse), and clearly was inspired to knockoff the success of Tim Burton's Batman. It ended up going to strait to video, and earning the dubious distinction of being one of the last films to be shot in Yugoslavia before that part of the world degenerated into a bloody melee.

Terminator! Such a classic. :3
Yay superman!

The Last Unicorn...

Hercules (1983)

Hercules in New York (1970)
The Professional
Silence of the Lambs
Big Fish.
Although it probably doesn't count as a 'cult' classic as far as most people are concerned. :(
Earth Vs the Flying Saucers!
Attack of the Super Monsters

house of a thousand corpses and devils rejects

Big Fish.

That was a great movie.
Teenage Catwomen in Heat, awesome b movie.
A Nightmare on Elm Street...
always loved that one.
I must say this first: I love this thread!
Now that is out of the way on too the cult classics:
Alien
Creation of the Humanoids
Colossus: The Forbin Project
Cyborg 2087
Futureworld
La Jetée
Metropolis(the orgininal 1927 film out of Germany)
THX-1138
Westworld
this is just a small handful of cult classics I can think of of the top of my head.
Rock, It's Your Decision
A right-wing, Christian conservative propaganda film that attempts to label all rock music as godless, satanic, and evil. See the review on The Agony Booth that unanimously demonstrates how many holes were left by the paper-thin logic of the filmmakers.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mx3sPOfzhEw
Pulp Fiction
Eastwood Westerns (Good the Bad the ugly, Few Dollars More, A Fist full of Dollars)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQf5Q9NQvhA
Quite possibly the worst musical ever made. For some ungodly reason, this movie has now become a cult film. I can se why: it grows on you like a bad fungus.
Sgt. Peppers was actually rated the worst film ever made about rock and roll :p
Incidentally, the film rated the best film ever made about rock and roll:
This
is
SPINAL TAP

Thank God It's Friday! (1978)
I was born in the wrong era. :P
Original 'Dawn of the dead'
I think 'Avatar' Will become a cult classic later on in life.

Too mainstream... OH GAWD IM A HIPSTER!
Kiki's Delivery service.
What does 'mainstream' have to do with a cult classic?
Pulp Fiction, Dawn of the dead, Aliens, were pretty main stream but are now cult classics.
I mean Avatar will probably end up being a cult classic in about 20 years.

Patrick Swayze in his first movie roll, the much underappreciated Skatetown USA (1979), which proves that he could dance long before he made dancing...Dirty.
One other good and pretty comedic movie is Deatroit Rock City.
A music related film which features KISS \m/ (><) \m/
Based when rock and roll was satanic
Fun Fact: One of the four characters is the actor who played the
kid in Terminator 2
Dazed and Confused
Cheech and Chong
Total Recall
Blood Sport
There are really only three words that you need to describe a cult film:
BEACH BLANKET BINGO!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nk3ZN3dSeDk
The original superman!
Oh man such a classic. c:
Also Scooby doo Is a classic. ;w;
~~shadowwolf
I dunno if it's a cult movie, but here:
Cannonball Run 1 & 2
Featuring: Burt Reynolds, Dom DeLuise, Dean Martin, Jackie Chan, Roger Moore, Farah Fawcett and many more
Funny then, Funny now
Yeah, it's a cult.
And so is this (because it was a film originally):

I'm surprised Liquid Sky hasn't been mentioned. It's about aliens that land on top of a fashion model's roof because her girlfriend is a heroin dealer and the aliens are addicted to it. Of course, they also discover that they prefer a chemical produced in the brain during sex so they start extracting it from everyone she has relations with. It's full of weird costumes, make-up and an electronic soundtrack.
*rambles* Velvet Goldmine is one of my faves as well and Rock & Rule. Man Who Fell To Earth is great if you can tolerate the slow pace and length. Hedwig And The Angry Inch used to be my absolute favorite as was Ichi The Killer, but these days I don't know which movie officially is. Watching Santa's Slay is a Christmas tradition for me.
Being a member on a Titan A.E. message board is how I discovered other furs in the first place. It's kinda where my social life began.
I remember Attack Of The Super Monsters. I used to have that thing on VHS. It was so odd with its "blending" of animation and live action. The title also makes me remember Attack Of The Beast Creatures which is so hilarious in its ineptitude that it must be seen for a laugh.
When it comes to Mad Max and Road Warrior, Road Warrior's original Australian title was Mad Max 2. But since the first one didn't do too well in the states it was retitled Road Warrior. It is an official sequel and the death of Max's family is even mentioned in Road Warrior/Mad Max 2.
Who forgot American Graffiti.
I saw it couple nights ago with my parents
it reminded me of a 1962 Superbad XD
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXRDQWVBI3Y
From master of suspense John Frankenheimer, Black Sunday (1977) was one of the first films to seriously examine the subject of international terrorism more than a decade before Bruce Willis and Die Hard inaugurated the golden age of one-man-vs-the-terrorists action movies.
I forgot to mention Caddyshack
Seven words:
"Hey everybody!, were all gonna get laid!"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvfXvW2wsuQ
Every furry ought to see Harvey, staring the indominable Jimmy Stewart and his six foot seven invitible rabbit.
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Lion King forever and always will be a cult classic.
Also Tremors.

Blackboard Jungle: A stirring though albeit propagandized portrayal of the mid-fifties American school system that was also the very first movie to feature a rock and roll soundtrack.
Earth Girls Are Easy. Classic sci-fi goof featuring Jeff Goldblum and Jim Carrey.
The Giant Gila Monster!

Reptilicus. When a movie compounds words like that, you know you are in for trouble. Basically, it's Denmark's foray into the monster movie rage of the 1960s. Just look at those...um, 'effects'.
Freddy and Jason movies are such cult classics. <3
Reptillicus you! I haven't seen that movie in forever. Earth vs. The Spider is also another 50's cult classic.

The mother of all the atomic monster movies.
The Outsiders
Not much a cult, but pretty classic.
The Call of Cthulhu (2005) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixm6MSLCqwU#ws)
Anyone who is a fan of H.P. Lovercraft's writings should know of this cult classic done in 2005, it was produced by Sean Branney and Andrew Leman and distributed by the HPLHS.

Ah the Silver Age of cinema. When you could make movies completely cynical about the tent poles of society. Case in point...
Duel (1971)
Steven Speilberg at his finest, before he did Jaws.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBnBCy3osnE
Zabriskie Point, long before it was immortalized on the cover of The Joshua Tree, it was a sign that Antonio had gone too far with an over-pretentious condemnation of consumer-centered, soul-sucking American society. Still, it has some fantastic cinematography and compositions, and a fine overview of what you might have seen walking down a street in Los Angeles during the late 1960s. But if this was the caliber of that generation, it's little wonder why the revolution failed.
