Figured I could fit a few of these in here, anyhow... I went out to the Reifel bird sanctuary today for some birding and got some really nice shots. They're all up on my Flickr account (http://www.flickr.com/photos/9027208@N03/), if anyone's interested. (There's also some nice shots from the Oregon Zoo and a cat show up there too.)
Beautiful action shots of the ducks! The zoo photos are great as well, love the tigers.
The two ducks you couldn't identify are: a Coot (black one with the red eye) and the other (looks like a mallard but with a white patch)is an American Widgeon... I had the same problem. You should head over to Stanley park and catch the Herons!
Couple of shots from this past Sunday at Reifel Island. Larger photos, and a few others, at the Flickr account in the first post. 8)

Wow beautiful pictures!
Bloody tired from three days out of town for work, but I took today and got to a zoo. I had an amazing interaction with one of their tigers. Here's an illustrative shot, taken from maybe three feet away through the enclosure glass:

More when I'm awake. =P
Ohhh the full view is gorgeous! You're so lucky to have had that privilege. Now I can't wait to see more!
A few more shots from the Dakota Zoo, Bismarck, ND, with lots more in my Flickr photostream:

The same Golden Tabby as the last shot. Basically, just after this was taken, I crouched down at the window. He hopped up, trotted right up at me, batted the window ledge, stretched, and sat down, looking at me. We interacted for a good five minutes, just me and him, nobody else around. It was pretty damn awesome.

Great headshot.

This is how close we were. (Cat owners, note him slipping into stage 1 of "sulk mode," I think because there were more people lurking around and he was getting shy.)

And some swift foxes being adorable. =)

Emo tiger is emo.
Couple of shots from the weekend, just for the heck of it. As usual, more on Flickr.

Spinnaker the Pacific white-sided dolphin, at the Vancouver Aquarium. I've got a few shots of him doing the high jump, but this one I think is the highest and most crisp so far. (Good practice with my new long lens, too.)

And some adorable mallard ducklings.
Went birding for a while today after embarrassing myself in poker and needing something to do besides stew.
More on Flickr, as always.

Lots of shots, not a lot of good ones. :-\
A few pics from a birding excursion to Reifel Island yesterday (good way to ignore the whole birthday thing, as I refuse to accept I'm aging):

oh god, the cranes at reifel...
i go there every winter to have fun with a 50lb sack of cracked corn and the hundreds of ducks in the parking lot
when i was a kid i payed no attention to the signs and went up the driveway by the house there to see the cranes better, i didnt know they were territorial. man even with my winter coat on those beaks pack a punch when that neck winds up and shoots forward. got my ass kicked that day.
Yeah, the cranes can be a little cranky at times. One of them took a poke at my camera bag as I was going past it - it was parked on the trail and I really had no choice - but it backed off when I told it I didn't care if it was endangered or not, I'd still sock it in the beak if it took another try. =P
well i was a 10 year old little girl knowing i was out of bounds, and was getting my ass atabbed at x.x
theyre not gentle ether if you feed them by hand
I have photographic proof that I am the straight man for the universe's sense of humour. =P
I'm currently in Hawaii, where my intentions have been to find a quiet beach and catch up on my reading while giving my pasty white physique some colour. First day, my beach hunt was thwarted by a car accident that blocked the road and didn't let me get to the beaches I was aiming for. Today, I went to a beach I'd been tipped off to by someone, and what did I find?

Look, universe, I'm not homesick. I'm fine with the hot sun. Seriously. =P
anyhow, some more pics. I'm here till Thursday evening - hopefully I find that beach time tomorrow...
