: Converting dvd's to AVI?
: Phyr April 23, 2010, 03:07:37 -06:00
I am working on coping all my dvd's onto hard drives and at the moment I have a variety of titles and under each title is two folders - Audio-TS & Video-TS there is nothing in the audio-ts but various files .bup, .ifo, and .vob that make up the movie. is there a certain program out there that anyone has had alot of luck with converting to one main file like any mkv or avi with no quality loss?

Also I have a couple blue ray movies if anyone know's how to break them down I would like to be left with about a 8GB file preferably mkv no quality loss and get rid of all the extra crap that comes on it. I do have a blue-ray burner.

Programs that I am using at the moment:
Slysoft
Clonedvd

Peace

Handbrake (http://handbrake.fr/downloads.php), hands down. :p

I don't know if it'll do an AVI container or not, but it does x264 and H.264 in MPEG-4 containers no problem, and it'll transcode from existing video now, not just DVD sources.  I believe you'll need to install VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) first to do DVD decryption in Handbrake itself.

I've ripped every DVD I own with Handbrake and it works beautifully.

I use Handbrake as well, along with DVD43 for decryption (it just runs transparently in the taskbar).

What setting do you use so that there is basically no quality loss?
