: Tax Time! - I will do your taxes for you.
: MikeFurry February 13, 2010, 03:27:55 -07:00
Hey hey all,

It is that time of year again, time for doing taxes, and once again I am doing the Canadian Volunteer Income Tax Program.  This means I am learning what is new for this year as well as gaining some tax software which means I can crunch the numbers for you and help you file.

This is basically for people of low income and those who can not afford to pay other's to do their taxes done by a professional, like H&R Block.   However, I will gladdy give advice and help out anyone who needs it.

If you need help with your taxes and/or want me to do them for you, please let me know.   Send email to thepeoplesfurry@shaw.ca
We can arrange something.

Hah...  you'd have a hayday with mine.  I have to figure out what happened three years ago when I sent them in, and they never came back.

We can refile.  I will need a copy of your old taxes, as well as your old T4s and the like.  Do you have all your stubs of the previous 3 years?

Yes this is there new 'helpful' serves...  It used to be you could go into the RevCan building on King George and ask them for this and they would help you out, but now, they give you this 1 800 number.   Contact Revenue Canada, explain what has happened, get copies for the past 5 years then we can go over them and refile.

No, you file for the province you lived in on December 31, 2009.  So if you lived in BC on December 31st, you file for BC.

That's pretty cool, but what's in it for us, just out of curiosity? I get mine done over at Fitzpatrick Associates in Port Moody; granted, it costs $50 to do it, but they find everything just to ensure you get your possible return down to the very last cent. A lot better and more professional than getting them done at an H&R Block, IMHO, even if you gotta pay a little extra...

I also remember hearing a while back that you can collect from the bus tickets issued when you take public transit. All that's required is to keep them. I've got mine when I paid my fares, and they're all in one convenient spot. Rumours speculated that the government was planning to cease that type of thing. Yeah, way to go, BC. =P

Needless to say, I was completely dissatisfied and rather disgusted at the way how CRA handled my taxes in a horribly slow fashion last year, as I didn't get mine until September, about some time before RainFurrest. I did, of course, filed a complaint and was very civil about it, but at the very least, I got my cheque before I left for Seattle that month.

The public transit tax credit is a federal tax credit, not a BC one.  It applies to all monthly- or longer tickets valid for all forms of public transit, like the Translink monthly/annual passes and anything like monthly passes on ferries.  Full details here:  http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/transitpass/ (http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/transitpass/)

So common transit passes issued by TransLink buses and ticket machines are no longer valid for income tax returns? (Ones that last 90 minutes)

I've written those off before...  when they were "ripoffs" ... no pun intended.

They NEVER qualified.  It has always been Monthly or Yearly passes (or in other provinces, weekly as well).
