Hey guys!
Just a few small things, first please could you not auto change the layouts and notify everyone when there are new layouts or themes?(I like the one called Indigo but I do enjoy seeing the new themes)
Second What is the size limit for picture posts and signatures??(Is there anyway to make it so that you can't post pictures or images bigger then the designated file size?)
Third could you please pick some colours to use on the forum and not change them?(I'm finding the white too bright and black too dark on most screens)(plus all the colour changes headache inducing because they change so often)
Any Feedback would be nice.
Thanks guys!
I think technically this topic should be more directed to Omanashi, since he's almost the only person who changes the layout of the site. Also, I think Kitten has a point, it would be nice to be informed of these changes, and as for the image sizes, there should be a limit to how big they are.
I know I am not much of help but this is the only info that I know of and that is regards to the size of signatures (325 x 120 px). It is listed in this post.
http://www.bcfurries.com/forum/index.php?topic=1048.0 (http://www.bcfurries.com/forum/index.php?topic=1048.0)
@Tai Thanks for the quick reply that was helpful!
@Hunny No that should not be directed to Omanashi because he is not the only Mod or Admin that works on the site or takes care of it.
Signature Sizes will be no bigger than 400x150
updating the sizes, sorry for the delay, i should have seen this sooner!
Also to inform everyone, im a very busy person, i cannot send a mA**-email notification to everyone every time i change somthing. :)
Most people are already upset by the number of notifications and emails per day in thier inbox from BCFCB. Also, 2.0 when we update will be alot better and faster for notifying people.
@Omanashi Could you maybe post a heads up on the forum say just before you make changes??
Also I personally am only concerned about the layout changes
Thanks for the reply,
Though I am still unclear as to the size limit of images in posts(not signatures)
Thanks again
the image sizes in posts will be autosized "if" you use the upload feature which is an advanced posting feature. i will take a screencap of it for you all and post it up soon.
Speaking of themes, I'm noticing the forum seems to be completely olympic themed, if you use the default template.
Trouble is, this is not an olympic forum, this is a furry forum, and there doesn't appear to be any olympic content anywhere. It really should stick to being, to the majority, furry themed, and if the olympics are to be supported by the board, they should be shown as supported, not dominating the entire theme.
it is furry themed after the olympics if i get my status back, but it goes by event, like winter was winter themed, and january was still a bit more winter themed.
thats how it works. so after the olympics it goes back to furry.
We try and celebrate even events that we probably all dont like that much, but also in respect we still have to deal with it since its a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Just keep -one- theme. It's worked well for the Albertafurries forum. I don't see why there's a need to reinvent the wheel every month. (And besides, I like the default SMF theme. Simple, plain, efficient.)
i can no longer change anything since i dont have admin anymore, but anyways, i know this forum is going to slowly die without a team running it, so iv given up on this project since rainrat went insane (i think?) i have no idea what hes doing but hes not acting like himself at all.
Therefore i have started up a new forums on my host as www.omanashi.com (http://www.omanashi.com)
if BCFCB goes down in the next few months, i have back-end backups to re-upload to my host.
I'd be happy with a theme other than Olympic, too. God knows we get bombarded with it everywhere else.
One olympic symbol or reference is good enough, not the entire forum.
its not the entire forum, its 2 little things , Header & Post Icons on the side
Click 'Profile', then 'Look and Layout Settings', and beside of the 'Current Theme' name hit 'Change'. 'DS-Natural' is the older tan-coloured theme we had for a while. Some of the stock ones are broken-ish, but others do work. The previews don't seem to work, but if you actually tell it to use X theme, it'll reload with it, you can poke around, or change it again to something else to try - problem solved. ;P
I don't think we should be changing these preferences once people have gone and set them to their liking, but adding new themes to pick from and letting people know is awesome.
Well, Rino is upset that I'm still using the Olympic theme he designed, and I'll have so switch everyone off it after the Olympics anyway. Perhaps I should switch all to SMF default theme. Hopefully it'll be the last forced theme change.
If you change the banner and forum icons, I don't think he can complain anymore. :3

Works for me. Hell, I'm using the SMF default theme now. :)
Im not upset about any of that, im upset at the principal of the thing as well as the BULLSHIT explanation, i have enough stress in my life and alot of people battering at me pissing me off to the uppermost extreme, this was the last straw because no-one understands my life at all

They're not your forums to tear down - they are the community's. If you object to being a part of it, that's your decision to make for yourself and no one else. If you have issues with continued use of assets (themes, whatever) that you may have worked on, they can be removed/replaced/etc. as needed.

Yeah, I made myself sole admin of bcfurries.com.

the support for a forum is no longer needed for bcfurries
How is that???
This forum has new things on it so fast... I cant even keep up with looking at everything

this forum is tearing everyone apart, and Rainrat is starting it just now, the support for a forum is no longer needed for bcfurries, i suggest this forum be torn down and everyone to use the yahoo groups like before where people arent always in the shadows.
that is what i think.
BCFCB Former Admin and Now non supporter
--Omanashi
I don't agree with that at all - I see a bunch of people who used the Yahoo groups mailing list get passed by for more active discussions on this forum. You start talking too fast on the mailing list and everyone screams at you for spamming - this way we can be as active as we want and sticky the important things (AND have the forum software e-mail you according to your own preferences). Honestly I think the old mailing list is simply outdated and limiting from a software standpoint, but I'm not going to bash people for wanting to maintain it. That doesn't mean other people don't have the right to move on to greener pastures if they desire.
Will still let the community choose direction and choose mods from the community as well though.

Okay so when have i "assisted" i worked on this forum behind the scenes for almost the entire year and shoved aside like its nothing?
And the fact you didnt bother giving any proper explanation your acting up with a childish response like "My Account My Rules" when i was doing everything for the members of BCFCB.
(No hard feelings to anyone else on the forums)
I challenge you RainRat to the utmost extreme, you think you can shove me aside like im nothing, like im no-one at all, you just used me!
I called you a friend rainrat, i told you everything you needed to know, but now your just a backstabber who used me to create the forums and take it over just for yourself, i worked together with you from the start and trusted you, i thought you were a good person, but im obviously wrong, since you did all these changes without any real explanation at all, nor any contact with any of the Moderators or myself to let us know whats really going on, nor to give your opinion, if you had been around to give your opinion i would have changed my opinion and followed yours.
Wait JUST a second here.
As much as the forums have caused harm to parts of the community, I think they've definitely done some good. It's been a great place to post more events and is certainly more accessible than the y! groups we were using previously. There has got to be a better solution than just packing this forum up. Jeez.

It isnt your forums to tear down its the community forums.
I'm perfectly fine with these forums than going back to the mailing list where I get bombarded by off topic messages and junk.
My 2cp on the issue (double-post, sorry, also biased here.)
While Rino has certainly helped set up the forum community for BC, there have been a number of questionable management choices from who was appointed to admin/mod to how posts have been modified due to rules that were -hardly- enforced.
I do thank him for creating the forums, yes. But I do think there is a time when a person should step aside when they stop being professional about the service they provide. Perhaps it's as good a time as any that leadership of the forums is changed a bit.
I'll continue to support whatever choice is made as long as it stands in the community's favour -- and that is, as far as I'm concerned, a place to network with other furs around BC in a peaceful and easy manner that's accessible to all that want to.
I'll still provide service for the @vfur twitter, along with Carthage and RainRat should they choose to continue posting to it, because I also believe that it's important to provide a variety of means for people to communicate.
RainRat started this war, now hes going to pay for it.
i would have been cool with this if he handled it a littler more professionally , but no explanation, nothing to go off of, and nothing said and just "doing it" doesnt help calm the situation at hand, it makes things worse. I am sure you can all agree he didnt handle what he did professionally either, so the main administration should be shot and handed to someone else other than myself or Rainrat.
i myself have not been a great admin or anything, but have simply tried my best to cope with situations, im not going to say im perfect, i have faults like anyone else. i step down and stop arguing this and let the following dispute on its own.
If Rat truely does care about the community he would hand it to someone else other than himself or I.
this can all be agreed to, as well as it makes proper sense in a situation as of this one.
I am keeping the board up with me as admin. But the community decides the direction. I am just here as a facilitator to do what you guys want.

You yourself also handled this situation badly, there is alot you could have done to reduce this disaster to the minimum that i would have gladly accepted, But again no proper explanation of the situation or whats going on, the sudden-ness without reasoning. you should accept yourself to stepping down and letting a more suitable person(s) take over. Both you nor i deserve to be administrators nor deserve power.

I uber agree with this route, there should be only one admin to faclitate the direction the community wants to take the forums. Really don't need more than one admin at this point & time. Its like having two or more captains on one ship trying to steer the ship two different directions.
In time we might need a second admin to handle half of the forums but at this time with the small number of members unlike other forums out there, that have member numbers ranging in the 1000's.
There only needs to be one admin, and maybe a moderator or two. I'm fine with Rat staying as admin, and if he chooses to appoint a few mods, I'll be fine with them too, as long as they're fair with their powers.
Could you demonstrate why should Rat give up his administrative capabilities? How has he failed at performing his job as admin? When a renter is evicted does the landlord need to sell the house?

Rino,
First of all that is ONE person.
Second you can't tell all of us no offense when you have said that you are going to take down the forum.
Third this wasn't a random thing there has probably been a lot of thought and time put into Rat's decision to remove ALL of the other mods and admin.
Rat I'm supporting you decision to make yourself the sole admin it's less confusing and makes life easier.
Rino I thank you for all you have done for the forum and just remember "Nothing is permanent in this wicked world - not even our troubles."
-Charlie Chaplin
I like the forum, I found the mailing list to be very daunting to post on, and the forum we can be selective with what we WANT to read and what we don't but, with the mailing list we get sent EVERYTHING. I have found the forum to be a better information source then the mailing list.

Rino I hate to be mean but I agree with is WHOLE HEARTEDLY. You have ignored rules YOU POSTED, you have deleted posts ONLY BECAUSE THEY PROVED YOU WRONG, and YOU have MEAN when dealing with people because of stupid little things that fall in gray areas in the FORUM RULES.

I am keeping the board up with me as admin. But the community decides the direction. I am just here as a facilitator to do what you guys want.
Rat please keep up with what you are doing, thank you.
This is what Aphinity told me and im following an act on that
ever since the forums launched, there's been an onslaught of very different people into our local community
I mean the less personal interface of it means not everyone knows each other like we used to
it's less of a community and more of a community centre with different rooms
case in point, I had more people ghosting howloween this year than in recorded history, adn they flat out lied to my face about it too
they won't bother reading a heartfelt apology from someone in general forums, or about a movie that everyone went to and enjoyed..
or someone selling something they might want.. unless they spend hours going around and through each topic
personally, the forums are a sign that our community is growing, but it's also a sign that we're separating.
no matter how pretty you make it, it won't change that.
i agree with this and feel like all its doing is tearing us apart into sperate pieces, yes we are changing, but not in a good way, we need to resort to straightening this up, and pull together as a community, this is now the time to act.
No matter how you look at it, communities will diverge. It's the nature of them. Some of you might remember it -- vaf and vfur on the mailing lists.
Personally, I think it's fine. People move on from group to group. I'm sure that I'd be alienated by some groups of people that I would not have been a few years ago.
So, I'm going to sum it up as such: The forums are a good thing. Some people don't like them, fine. They can create their own community. You can only be so accommodating for everybody. If this is the tipping point, then fine. I think a majority of the furries in Vancouver prefer this over the old mailing list. If you can come up with something that unites everybody and works for everybody... I'll buy you a fleet of drinks.
which we need to rework whats going on here and re-assess the situations open mindedly
Rino, you've run this place like your own clubhouse since day one, and frankly, your attitude has chased people away. I know because I'm one of those people. You've made unilateral decisions, punished people for saying things you didn't like, and made questionable changes and appointments. Your attitude toward running this forum has always been questionable in the professionalism department. I know you don't like to hear this and you're probably sputtering with buts, but I am far from the only person that feels this way.
I for one welcome the change and the move toward mods and administrators appointed as needed.
I actually agree with Silvermink.
I maintained my friendship with you, Rino, because I am the type of person to separate business from personal. But quite frankly, I don't agree with the way you've run these forums whatsoever.
I also agree with Acco, where you need to correct yourself before you correct other people, regarding the language rule. If you don't, you are known as a hypocrite; A very shameful label to place on someone whom is in a position where remaining professional would be the best course of action.
I am not saying these things to be hurtful, but rather as constructive criticism. If you are going to work with anything social, you need to learn these things anyways, especially if you are in a position of power. Otherwise, you will be shot down, just like you have last night.
Hate me if you want to. I can't say that I don't care, but I can say that I would rather you read what I post here with sincerity, rather than disliking my words.
Which is why im taking the lessons learned here and now running www.omanashi.com (http://www.omanashi.com) with pride and democracy, not questioning peoples likes or dislikes but being positive 100% about every situation,
Thank you Felix for telling me this and i agree with you for the constructive crit.
I'll take the blame for this one. I recommended the changes to Rat and he agreed with me. We both decided you had to be pulled quickly and without warning before you attempted to sabotage the site for everyone. You went too far, overstepped your boundaries with too many people. I didn't take action until you directly involved me and threatened banning. Bottom line is, Rat owns the forums, he has every right to do what he pleases. Changes had to be made, so they were. Don't blame Rat for this, as it was not his idea, he just performed the action...the messenger if you will. It just took someone to stand up and say something on behalf of the entire community that what you were doing was wrong. All the best with your own forums mate', I see you named it after yourself. Your kind of a big deal eh?
I told you not to open this can of worms.

I believe IT was RainRat and Myself talking about making a Site for BCFurries to replace the mailing list, when
you just poped up with a pre-made forum declaring yourself the Administrator. I have seen you abuse your powers countless times. Several for out of form aurguments between others and yourself. I've never felt you were qualified for the job.
just like i believe you didnt even do it, you thought it, but you never ever went through with it, since most of you kept bitching about a new forums or somthing but never EVER went through with it because you only do things half-assed, you get the idea, but you fail to follow through, not my fault you didnt do it first. i mean honestly, not being to rude about it, but you had the opportunity, yet you never followed through.
