: Olympic Warning ( Holland Park, Surrey SkyTrain stations.)
: Masozi January 26, 2010, 03:19:56 -07:00

Many furs who transit or drive through North Surrey on a regular basis will probably be affected by the big Olympic Celebration site at Holland Park.  The park is located on the geographic west side of the King George sky train station, (geographic south from Surrey Central.)  Below is a part of the news story from the CBC with some details on what will be happening there.  This is a heads up warning that traveling near this site could be a headache.  Buses and sky train are expected to be busier and slower, traffic on nearby roads could be much heavier as well.  Transklunk from my area in South Surrey to Skytrain is crowded and slow enough already, this will add major suck to it.

CBC News reports...

" The City of Surrey is planning a massive 13-day winter festival to celebrate the 2010 Olympic Winter Games at Holland Park. Giant tents and four massive video screens will be set up to broadcast Olympic events in the 24-acre urban park next to the King George Highway, ( starting on Feb. 12, the opening night of the Games).  Among the free events planned for the site are daily shows of the RCMP Musical Ride, top musical acts like Blue Rodeo and Sam Roberts, and winter activities like tobogganing, skating, curling, and arts and crafts. The money to host the party for an estimated 20,000 people each day will come from combining other winter events already in the city's budget. The event is being held just steps away from the King George SkyTrain station so tourists and party goers from downtown Vancouver can easily make their way to the festival. "

* Reminder about Feb 12th * - Opening Ceremony begins at 18:00hrs at BC Place, probably ending around 21 -22:00. Fursuit Bowling attendees should keep in mind that this will likely affect transit through the city if you are having to come/go through downtown.

Eep, glad I am not commuting through Surrey right now.

By the looks of it Sky Train will be a zoo on Friday Feb 12th.

At the downtown end you will have all the Opening Ceremony crowds to deal with. On the Surrey end of the Expo line you will likely end up having a lot of Holland Park attenders all over Surrey Central and King George... I pity anyone who is going to have to commute through that mess every day in Feb.

thank you so much. I was wondering what all that stuff was for. I'm trying to not pay attention to the Olympic stuff.. but now... I know to not try to get to my aqua aerobics in the pool which is RIGHT BESIDE that set up.

~sighs~ Oh well. I can take the bus but poor Lenare drives there.. she wont have anywhere to park her car. :( And to top it off the damn Olympics is already effecting any plans I wanted to make for my birthday on the 14th. Guess I get to stay at home and do nothing again...~sighs~

Awesome, I can walk over to the King George Skytrain station and say that I was there at the Olympics, without actually having to be there.

I moved out here from Montreal, there is no way I am missing out on this (especially if it is FREE)

I'd love to get out to Surrey for the free shows on the 27th, but I suspect the Skytrain will be insane, along with everything else. =P
